In October 2020, Chiyomaru Shikura announced a new Science Adventure project related to STEINS;GATE and said it could be considered a sequel—but it would not be a fan disc. He also said the stories of STEINS;GATE and STEINS;GATE 0 were complete. The announcement did not establish a final title, release date, platform, plot, or the project’s current status.
What did Chiyomaru Shikura announce?
At MAGES.’s October 2020 business strategy presentation, Shikura described a new Science Adventure project related to STEINS;GATE. Famitsu reported its provisional label as 『シュタインズ・〇〇』, with the rest of the title withheld. Shikura said, 「続編として考えてもいいが、ファンディスクではない」—“You can think of it as a sequel, but it is not a fan disc.” Famitsu’s October 26, 2020 report is the source for the announcement and his explanation.

His distinction matters: he described a new project that could be viewed as a sequel, not a continuation made simply to extend the existing story. Famitsu reported his view that STEINS;GATE and STEINS;GATE 0 had completed that story, and that extending it further risked being unnecessary.
Famitsu also reported that Mamoru Miyano, Tomokazu Seki, and Asami Imai would appear in the project. The report does not specify their roles or provide a complete cast list.

- In addition to new dialogue and narrative text, a new route has been added with an additional ending
Is STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT the sequel?
No. STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT is a separate reboot of the original game, not the project Shikura discussed in 2020. Its official product page describes a visual and narrative revamp, new dialogue, a new worldline and ending, newly recorded voices, and remade music. Those features belong to the reboot; they do not confirm details about the separately announced project.
Spike Chunsoft announced an additional Gamma Worldline route for RE:BOOT in June 2026. That route is also part of the reboot, not evidence about the sequel project. Spike Chunsoft’s June 5, 2026 announcement identifies it as an added route not present in the 2009 release.

For context only, the official RE:BOOT page gives October 29, 2026, as the North American and European physical release date for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 5. It lists digital platforms including Xbox Series X|S and Steam. These are reboot release details, not a schedule or platform list for Shikura’s project. Spike Chunsoft’s November 19, 2025 announcement also describes RE:BOOT as a reboot. The official page says the series has sold more than 4 million units worldwide; it does not specify the measurement period or the year for that cumulative figure.

The 2020 announcement establishes that a related Science Adventure project was presented, that Shikura said it could be thought of as a sequel rather than a fan disc, and that three actors were reported to be involved. The provisional Japanese label is not a final title.

The cited sources do not verify the project’s current development status, final title, release date, platforms, premise, or whether the three named actors will reprise particular roles. In particular, the reboot’s release schedule, platforms, and Gamma route should not be attributed to it. An announcement in 2020 is not, by itself, confirmation that the project is currently in development or available.
