Splendour in the Grass did not take place in 2025. Organisers announced on 23 January 2025 that the festival needed more time to recharge and would not return that year. They gave no date for a comeback. The announcement followed the cancellation of the 2024 edition.
What happened to Splendour in the Grass?
Splendour in the Grass began in 2001 and became one of Australia’s best-known music festivals. It ran annually apart from the two-year COVID-era pause until the planned 2024 event was cancelled. On 23 January 2025, organisers said it would not take place that year either.
The festival’s official update acknowledged Minyungbal Country and its Elders, and described the 2025 pause as a chance for the team to recharge. Read the organisers’ update.
Why was the 2025 festival called off?
Organisers did not announce a specific operational or financial reason for not holding the 2025 festival. Their statement said: “Splendour needs a little more time to recharge and we won’t be back this year.” The wording explained the pause, but did not identify a single cause or give a timetable for a return.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The decision followed the 2024 cancellation. On 27 March 2024, after the lineup had been announced, organisers said that edition would not go ahead because of “unexpected events.” That was their public explanation; it should not be replaced with a more definite cause.
What pressures were affecting Australian festivals?
Industry reporting offered broader context, not a confirmed account of Splendour’s own finances. Australian Festival Association managing director Mitch Wilson told ABC’s Hack that ticket sales were not keeping pace with rising costs. As ABC reported in January 2025, Wilson said: “We’re seeing costs up 30-40 per cent across the board, and ticket sales just aren’t where they need to be to cover those costs.” That comment describes pressures facing festivals generally; it does not establish Splendour’s specific financial position.

APRA AMCOS also identified rising costs, insurance premiums and state regulation as pressures on festivals in a March 2024 statement. These are sector-wide concerns, not a detailed explanation from Splendour’s organisers.
Creative Australia’s Soundcheck report is a snapshot of the Australian festival sector in FY2022–23. It mapped 535 music festivals presented across Australia in that financial year, and the report’s appendix lists Splendour in the Grass as a 2024 cancellation. ABC reported the report’s finding that 56% of Australian music festivals were profitable in 2022–23. Neither figure describes Splendour’s finances or the current state of the festival industry.

Is Splendour in the Grass coming back?
Live Nation said the festival team had its support to bring Splendour back “when they feel it’s right”. That statement expressed support for a possible future return, but set no date and was not a return announcement.
The official update available for this article says the festival would not return in 2025. No later return announcement is established here, so it would be inaccurate to describe Splendour as either permanently ended or confirmed to be coming back. Check the official Splendour in the Grass site for any future announcement.

What happened to 2024 ticket holders?
When organisers cancelled the 2024 event, ticket retailer Moshtix was to refund ticket holders automatically, according to ABC’s 27 March 2024 report. That refund information concerned the cancelled 2024 edition; it does not describe tickets for a 2025 event, which did not take place.
