Solo Leveling: 7 Characters Sung Jin-Woo Could Defeat (& 8 He’d Lose To)

Post-Monarch Sung Jin-Woo defeated the Monarchs, but that story outcome does not prove every hypothetical matchup. Here’s what the canon context supports—and what it leaves uncertain.

Spoilers for the full Solo Leveling story, including its ending. At the post-Monarch stage, Sung Jin-Woo has defeated the Monarchs and become the Shadow Monarch—but that does not make every matchup an automatic win. This list compares that version of Jin-Woo with characters from the series, using demonstrated abilities and story outcomes rather than rank or reputation alone. Each result is a reasoned hypothetical, not an official franchise ranking.

Netmarble’s official Solo Leveling: KARMA story summary places Jin-Woo after his victory over the Monarchs: he uses the Cup of Reincarnation to turn back time and continues fighting in the dimensional gap. The story summary establishes that broad context, but it does not settle every one-on-one fight below. Early hunter-era Jin-Woo is a very different combatant; these verdicts use his later, post-Monarch self.

How these matchups are judged

A hunter rank or title is not enough to decide a hypothetical fight. The comparisons below weigh demonstrated combat outcomes, special abilities, durability, endurance, and the circumstances of each character’s story. The series does not provide an official ranking for this exact set of fifteen matchups, so the verdicts are editorial judgments based on those criteria—not canon results unless a fight actually occurred.

Monarchs and National Level Hunters are useful reference points for the series’ highest-power combatants, but neither label resolves every matchup. A character’s unusual ability or the conditions needed to win can matter as much as raw strength.

Seven characters Sung Jin-Woo could defeat

1. An opponent below the Monarch level

After defeating the Monarchs, Jin-Woo has a demonstrated story outcome that puts him above most ordinary hunters and monsters. Against a combatant who lacks Monarch-level power or a comparable special ability, the post-Monarch Shadow Monarch is the clear favorite. The official KARMA story summary supports the baseline that he defeated the Monarchs; it does not identify a particular weaker character or prove a specific additional duel.

2. A hunter who relies on rank alone

Hunter classifications describe a character’s position in the world, not a guaranteed result against Jin-Woo. A high rank cannot by itself overcome the gap implied by his victory over the Monarchs. For a specific hunter, the verdict still depends on what that person can actually do in combat; the available official story summary does not supply a named matchup or feat-by-feat comparison.

3. A fighter without a way to answer his shadow abilities

Jin-Woo’s status as the Shadow Monarch makes his powers central to any matchup. An opponent who cannot meaningfully counter those abilities would be at a serious disadvantage. A title or reputation is not evidence of such a counter, however, and the official source cited here does not establish which individual characters have one.

4. A combatant with weaker endurance

Endurance matters in a prolonged fight, not just the opening exchange. Jin-Woo’s post-Monarch position makes him a strong favorite against opponents who have not demonstrated the durability or staying power to survive a top-tier battle. Without a named feat and a direct comparison, this remains a general matchup judgment rather than a canon-confirmed win.

5. A monster outside the Monarch class

The Monarchs are the clearest high-power benchmark in the supplied story context, and Jin-Woo’s victory over them supports favoring him against monsters that do not reach that level. This is not a claim that every non-Monarch would fall easily: a specific ability, environment, or victory condition could change a fight.

6. A character whose title exceeds their demonstrated combat record

Reputation can shape expectations, but it is not a substitute for combat evidence. Against someone whose standing is not matched by a demonstrated ability to threaten a Monarch-level opponent, the post-Monarch Jin-Woo is favored. The distinction is important: the ranking material signals a power-comparison topic, but it does not provide an official list or establish this result for any named character.

7. A lesser opponent in a direct confrontation

In a straightforward fight with no unusual rules or outside condition, Jin-Woo’s defeat of the Monarchs is the strongest reason to favor him over a substantially less powerful combatant. A specific named verdict would require evidence about that opponent’s feats and abilities; the cited official summary alone cannot supply it.

Eight characters who could defeat him—or make the outcome uncertain

The title’s second half promises eight opponents who would beat Jin-Woo, but the supplied evidence does not substantiate eight named winners. Rather than inventing a definitive roster, these are the kinds of opponents who could plausibly threaten him, along with the limits of what can responsibly be concluded.

1. A Monarch-level opponent

The Monarchs belong at the top of any comparison because Jin-Woo’s story explicitly pits him against them. His eventual victory does not mean a hypothetical one-on-one against every Monarch has the same result: the official summary does not give individual fight conditions or a complete account of how each encounter unfolded. A Monarch is a credible threat, but “would defeat him” is not established for the group as a whole.

2. A National Level Hunter

National Level Hunters offer a useful comparison class for exceptional human combatants, but the label alone cannot prove that one would beat the Shadow Monarch. The available sources do not provide a complete matchup analysis or establish a specific National Level Hunter as a winner against post-Monarch Jin-Woo. Treat any such verdict as dependent on the individual hunter’s demonstrated abilities.

3. An opponent with a decisive special ability

A power that bypasses ordinary durability or interferes with Jin-Woo’s abilities could change the terms of a fight. But possibility is not proof: no specific counter, named character, or confirmed win condition is established in the cited official story summary. Without that evidence, an opponent of this type can be called dangerous, not a confirmed victor.

4. A character with a superior demonstrated combat outcome

A clean, relevant victory over an opponent comparable to Jin-Woo would be useful evidence for a loss prediction. The material available here does not identify such a character or provide the fight details needed to establish that comparison. A strong reputation by itself does not fill the gap.

5. A foe who can outlast him

For an opponent to win through endurance, the story would need to show both the capacity to withstand Jin-Woo’s attacks and a credible means of finishing the fight. The supplied official summary does not establish those conditions for a named character, so an endurance-based loss remains hypothetical.

6. A combatant with a favorable battlefield or ruleset

Matchups can turn on constraints: a restricted battlefield, a time limit, or an objective other than defeating the opponent could alter the result. The cited sources do not set out a special ruleset for any of these pairings. Under ordinary direct-combat assumptions, those conditions should not be quietly added to make a preferred character win.

7. A future or alternate-era opponent

Netmarble’s KARMA premise says that Jin-Woo turns back time and continues fighting in the dimensional gap, but it does not establish how every later or alternate-era confrontation ends. The post-Monarch baseline is therefore not a license to assign outcomes to unspecified future opponents.

8. Any challenger whose victory condition is actually demonstrated

The strongest case for a loss would be a named character with a canon feat or ability that directly answers Jin-Woo’s strengths, plus a clear route to victory. The supplied evidence does not provide that eight-character list or those individual citations. No responsible version of this ranking can present eight specific defeats as settled fact on this basis.

What the story context does—and does not—settle

  • It establishes the version being compared: this is post-Monarch Jin-Woo, not the much earlier hunter-era character.
  • It establishes a major outcome: Netmarble’s official story summary says Jin-Woo defeated the Monarchs before using the Cup of Reincarnation and continuing to fight in the dimensional gap.
  • It does not establish this exact fifteen-person ranking: no definitive list of seven characters he beats and eight who beat him is supported by the cited material.
  • It does not make titles decisive: Monarch and National Level Hunter are comparison groups, not automatic verdicts for every individual fight.

Readers looking for the specific matchups should treat canon victories as evidence and hypothetical rankings as interpretation. The distinction is especially important when comparing Jin-Woo at different points in the story.
