He was found in his hotel room in Kenner, Louisiana, on February 5, 2025. The Jefferson Parish coroner later attributed his death to the combined effects of Xanax and alcohol with positional asphyxia, but classified the manner of death as undetermined. Criminal charges and police allegations followed; they are not findings of guilt.
What happened to Adan Manzano?
Manzano was in Louisiana on assignment covering the Super Bowl for Telemundo Kansas City and Tico Sports when he was found dead in his Kenner hotel room on February 5, 2025. Kenner is a suburb of New Orleans. When his death was first reported, police were investigating and the cause had not yet been publicly established. The Kansas City Star’s February 6 report covered the initial news and tributes from his colleagues.
Manzano was 27. Telemundo Kansas City and Tico Sports confirmed his death and said they were cooperating with authorities. The early news reports preceded the coroner’s later findings.
What was the cause of death?
Jefferson Parish coroner Dr. Gerry Cvitanovich later attributed Manzano’s death to the combined effects of Xanax and alcohol, along with positional asphyxia. ABC News reported that he was found face down in a pillow and that his alcohol level was almost three times the legal limit.

Cause and manner are different findings
The coroner classified the manner of death as undetermined because the circumstances were uncertain. Cause describes the medical factors that led to death; manner is the coroner’s classification of how a death occurred, such as accidental or intentional. The cause finding does not by itself establish who provided a drug or whether anyone acted intentionally.
In explaining the classification, Cvitanovich said, “In most cases of overdose deaths, the manner of death is accidental, and that’s whether or not there’s positional asphyxia.” He said the uncertainty surrounding this case led his office to classify the manner as undetermined. That classification should not be rewritten as either a confirmed homicide or a confirmed accident.
What did early reports say, and what changed?
In February 2025, the Associated Press reported police testimony that a preliminary toxicology examination found a benzodiazepine depressant in Manzano’s system, while investigators awaited final autopsy and toxicology reports. That was an interim account, not the later coroner finding. The AP report reflects what was known at that stage; the coroner’s subsequent account identified the combined effects of Xanax and alcohol with positional asphyxia.
Who was charged or accused?
Danette Colbert was charged with second-degree murder, according to ABC News’ March 18, 2025 report. Kenner Police Chief Keith Conley described the case as “a circumstantial case.” A murder charge is an allegation, not proof of guilt, and the coroner’s findings do not establish who supplied a substance or whether a crime occurred.

In a May 30, 2025 report, Telemundo said police accused Christian Anderson of providing logistical support in what they described as a coordinated pattern. That report also said Rickey White had been charged with second-degree murder. Telemundo reported that attorneys for White and Colbert disputed or did not respond to some claims. The report describes allegations and charges, not adjudicated facts. The available reporting here does not establish the eventual court disposition of any charge.
