Promotional art reportedly shows Scorpion, Boomerang and Tarantula together in Spider-Man: Brand New Day—but the evidence is not the same for all three. Sony’s official materials name Michael Mando in the cast, and Rotten Tomatoes identifies him as Mac Gargan/Scorpion. The reviewed Sony cast list and FAQ do not name Boomerang or Tarantula, or establish their actors or roles.
What was revealed about the three characters?
GamesRadar+ reported that promotional art on Brazilian merchandise retailer Piticas’ website appeared to show Scorpion alongside images of Boomerang and Tarantula. That makes this a report about promotional imagery, not an official Sony announcement of the characters’ parts in the story.
The distinction matters: a character appearing in promotional art does not, by itself, establish who plays the character, how much of the film they appear in, or what they do in the plot.
Scorpion: the clearest connection
Sony’s official cast list includes Michael Mando, and Rotten Tomatoes identifies Mando as Mac Gargan/Scorpion. GamesRadar+ also reports that Mando is returning as Scorpion. Taken together, those sources support identifying Scorpion as part of the film, portrayed by Mando.

Boomerang and Tarantula: pictured, but not confirmed in Sony’s materials
The GamesRadar+ report says the art appeared to include Boomerang and Tarantula, but notes that Marvel’s casting announcements had not included those characters at the time. Sony’s reviewed cast list and FAQ do not name either one. They also do not identify an actor for either character or describe a film role.
GamesRadar+ identifies the comic-book Boomerang as Fred Myers and the Tarantula incarnation discussed in its report as Anton Rodriguez. Those are comic-history details; they do not establish which versions, if any, the film uses. The report does not prove that either character is a main villain or reveal a plot function.

What Sony has officially confirmed about the film
Sony describes Spider-Man: Brand New Day as the fourth film featuring Tom Holland as Spider-Man. Its synopsis says Peter Parker fights crime full-time in a world that does not remember him. As his old friends move on, the pressure sparks a change he may not be able to control. Sony sums up the emotional premise with the line: “The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them.”
Sony’s FAQ places the story four years after Spider-Man: No Way Home. Peter has sacrificed his relationships with MJ and Ned and devoted himself to being Spider-Man full-time; MJ and Ned have returned to New York without remembering him. The FAQ also describes Frank Castle as an adversary who may become an ally, Jean Grey as having psychic abilities, Bruce Banner as a professor, and William “Bill” Metzger as director of the Department of Damage Control.

How to read the reveal without overreading it
- Established by Sony: the premise, the four-years-later setting, the named cast and the characters described in the official FAQ.
- Supported by cast cross-checking: Michael Mando’s association with Mac Gargan/Scorpion.
- Reported from promotional art: apparent images of Boomerang and Tarantula, as reported by GamesRadar+.
- Not established in the reviewed official materials: who plays Boomerang or Tarantula, their screen time, whether they are antagonists, or how they affect the plot.
For now, the careful description is that reported promotional art appears to show all three characters, while Scorpion has a cast connection and Boomerang’s and Tarantula’s film details remain unconfirmed by Sony’s published cast and FAQ.
