South Park season 27 stopped at five episodes, and the next new episode was labeled the season 28 premiere. The change took effect on October 15, 2025; contemporaneous reporting said the reason for the season switch was unclear. Paramount+ later listed season 28 through episode 5, and the series moved on to season 29 in September 2026.

Paramount+’s official episode catalog lists season 28 episode 5 with a November 27, 2025 date. This supports the season 28 labeling continuing through at least that listed episode on the service; catalog listings do not guarantee availability in every country, and streaming availability can change.
Why did season 27 end after five episodes?
The reason has not been established in the reporting cited here. The Los Angeles Times reported that the abrupt season change was unexplained. The available sources confirm the episode count, label and dates, but do not give a production or business explanation. Claims that the change was caused by scheduling, production delays or a strategic decision would be speculation.

What happened after season 28?
South Park subsequently moved into season 29. South Park Studios and Comedy Central announced that the season 29 premiere was set for September 16, 2026, on South Park Studios. The announcement also called season 27 the show’s most-watched season in six years and said it had the best average P18-49 share in 27 years; those are the publisher’s comparative audience claims, and the announcement excerpt provides no absolute audience figure.
