Amazon MGM Studios has confirmed that production is underway on its Tomb Raider series starring Sophie Turner as Lara Croft. It has not confirmed a training plan for Turner. A May 2025 entertainment story described her as “looking strong” and connected her appearance with the role, but that is secondary reporting—not a studio announcement or a measured account of her physical preparation.
What Amazon has confirmed about the series
Amazon MGM Studios announced that production is underway on a Prime Video adaptation of Tomb Raider, with Turner playing the world-famous archaeologist and adventurer Lara Croft. The announcement names Phoebe Waller-Bridge as creator, writer, executive producer and co-showrunner, and Chad Hodge as co-showrunner and executive producer. Amazon’s announcement does not give a premiere date.
Turner said she had been a longtime fan of the franchise and described Lara as “a fierce female role model.” That is a statement about her connection to the character, not a comment on a workout or diet for the part.
What the “looking strong” report says—and what it doesn’t
The headline’s appearance-and-training framing comes from a CBR story syndicated on IMDb on May 20, 2025. It discussed Turner’s appearance in an image and linked that impression to her casting as Lara Croft. That makes “looking strong” an observation in secondary coverage, not a verified physical-strength measurement or confirmation of a transformation for the series. The IMDb-syndicated CBR story is not an official production disclosure.

A separate Times of India lifestyle article, published May 21, 2025, recounted reported exercise and diet habits and cited interviews. It does not establish that Turner follows those habits for Tomb Raider, so they should not be presented as her role-specific regimen. The Times of India article is lifestyle coverage, not confirmation from Turner, her trainer or the production.
What is still unknown
The available official announcement confirms the casting, creative roles and that production is underway. It does not disclose Turner’s training schedule, trainer, diet, physical preparation or a release date. No verified quote from Turner, her trainer or the production in the cited coverage specifies a Lara Croft workout. The series should therefore be described as in production, not as released or dated.

A separate Tomb Raider game announcement
Amazon has also announced Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, a game planned for release in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam. This is a separate franchise project; the announcement does not provide evidence about Turner’s preparation for the Prime Video series. Amazon’s game announcement gives the planned platforms and release window.
