Sophia Forrest is an Australian actor whose early television breakthrough came with Love Child, followed by screen work and a demanding one-person stage performance in Prima Facie. A 2017 profile introduced them as the daughter of Nicola and Andrew Forrest; later coverage also documents the acting training and casting path behind their career. The dates matter: the 2017 profile is an origin story, while the later account of their identity and stage work comes from 2024.
Who is Sophia Forrest?
Forrest is an Australian actor and the second daughter of Nicola and Andrew Forrest, as reported by PerthNow on 30 April 2017. That profile, published when Forrest was 22, described a performer beginning a prominent television role—not a current biography or career update. In a 27 June 2024 interview, The Guardian described Forrest as non-binary and used they/them pronouns. This article follows that later reporting for present-day reference.
The family connection was an obvious point of public interest, but it is not the whole account of how Forrest entered acting. WAAPA—Edith Cowan University’s Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts—reported in 2017 that casting scouts saw students’ work and Forrest secured a three-year deal on Love Child before completing their acting degree. WAAPA Associate Dean of Performance Andrew Lewis said, “Sophia’s talent was noticed by quite a few people.” WAAPA, Inside WAAPA, Issue 47.
How did Forrest get their start on Love Child?
In the 2017 PerthNow interview, Forrest said they had moved to Sydney about three months earlier after landing a role in season four of Nine’s drama Love Child. The Nine/Playmaker season-four media kit identifies their character as Debbie Hampshire and places the character within that season’s storylines. The move and contract are historical details from 2017, not evidence of where Forrest lives or works now.

The same interview records Forrest’s enthusiasm for Australian film and a willingness to follow work where it led. Asked about Hollywood, they said, “I definitely will go wherever the work takes me, but I am very proud of our Australian film, I think we produce some incredible films here.” That was a statement of outlook in 2017, not a current career plan. PerthNow also described Forrest’s personal connection to Minderoo, the family cattle station north of Perth, including riding and mustering.
- PerthNow’s 30 April 2017 profile captures the early-career moment and its family context.
- The season-four media kit documents the Debbie Hampshire credit.
What has Sophia Forrest acted in?
The Guardian’s 2024 profile lists Forrest’s screen work as Love Child, Barons, Bali 2002, Aquaman and Ride Like a Girl. These titles span television and film; the article does not establish Forrest’s current employment or announce upcoming projects. Its list is a useful documented snapshot rather than a claim that it covers every credit.

What role did Forrest play in Prima Facie?
In a Perth production of Suzie Miller’s play Prima Facie, Forrest played Tessa Ensler and also performed 25 other voices. Tessa is a barrister whose professional certainty is challenged by the events of the story. The demands of carrying the central role and shifting among the other voices made the production a substantial departure from a conventional screen part. Forrest called it “the hardest thing I’ve ever done” in their 2024 interview with The Guardian.
The Perth staging discussed in that interview is past; the article does not establish a current production or ticket availability. The Guardian also notes that Miller’s play has a novel adaptation, but Forrest is the performer, not the author of the work. What the 2017 profile can—and cannot—tell you
The PerthNow story is valuable as a dated portrait of a young actor entering a major television role, and as a record of how family background and career ambitions were discussed at that moment. It should not be used to infer Forrest’s present age, home, plans, or status. The later Guardian profile updates the public record on their non-binary identity and describes the Prima Facie performance, but the sources cited here do not establish Forrest’s exact current representation, employment, or forthcoming work.
