On October 5, 2024, the fan-run X account @SnoopyWeekly posted an endorsement of Donald Trump alongside an image of Snoopy shaking hands with a Trump figure. Snoopy-focused users criticized the post. It was deleted, the account issued follow-up posts, and it later deactivated. The account was not an official Peanuts channel.
What did @SnoopyWeekly post?
On October 5, 2024, @SnoopyWeekly paired political claims endorsing Donald Trump with an image showing Snoopy shaking hands with a Trump figure. The original post was later removed; its wording and context have been preserved in screenshots and contemporaneous reporting. Know Your Meme’s event chronology records the post and its removal.
Was the account official?
No. Contemporary coverage described @SnoopyWeekly as a fan-run account with no official tie to the Charles M. Schulz estate. It was distinct from official Snoopy and Peanuts accounts. The endorsement therefore represented the account operator’s political position, not an announcement by Peanuts Worldwide, the Schulz estate, or Snoopy as a character. Comic Sands and The Economic Times made this distinction in their coverage.
Why did Snoopy users object?
Some Snoopy-focused users and other accounts criticized the political post. The backlash was visible on social media, but it should not be treated as unanimous opposition from the entire Snoopy fandom. Some users also pointed followers toward alternative Snoopy accounts. What happened to the account afterward?
Contemporaneous reports say @SnoopyWeekly deleted the endorsement, thanked accounts supporting Trump, and continued posting voter-registration messages before deactivating. The account is no longer available for direct verification, so the sequence is based on reporting about its posts rather than a currently accessible account. What did Charles M. Schulz say about politics?
Comic Sands reported that a 1970 letter from Charles M. Schulz to a fan included the line, “sometimes it is the very people who cry out the loudest in favor of getting back to what they call ‘American Virtues’ who lack this faith in our country.” The same report attributes to Schulz the statement, “I believe that our greatest strength lies always in the protection of our smallest minorities.” These are quotations as reported by Comic Sands; they do not establish an official position behind @SnoopyWeekly’s post or settle how every reader should interpret Schulz’s views.
