In March 2019, PerthNow reported that Samantha Wyllie planned to launch a Perth fashion label called Meraki Official the following month. The announcement named former Ae’lkemi designer Alvin Fernandez as creative director and described a collection focused on ready-to-wear alongside continuing couture creations. The report also said a Claremont store was due to open on 2 April 2019; it does not confirm whether that opening happened or whether the label operates today.
What was Meraki Official?
Meraki Official was the name given to the fashion label Wyllie planned to launch in April 2019. PerthNow’s report of 23 March 2019 described Wyllie as the label’s co-founder and launching partner, with Fernandez appointed creative director. PerthNow’s launch announcement is the source for those plans.
Wyllie told PerthNow: “We toyed with the idea last year, and it wasn’t really the right time. It’s the perfect fit for where we are at now.”
Who was designing the label?
Alvin Fernandez, a former Ae’lkemi designer, was named creative director. PerthNow reported that he had closed his flagship label in February 2019 and said the Meraki role meant he would not have to move interstate. These details describe the circumstances reported at the time, not Fernandez’s current work or location.

What did the planned collection include?
The reported product mix combined ready-to-wear and couture creations, with ready-to-wear set to be the stronger focus. In other words, the announcement presented Meraki as a label pursuing a broader clothing range while retaining couture work, rather than as a couture-only venture.
A November 2019 PerthNow follow-up described Meraki as a ready-to-wear venture formed by Wyllie and Fernandez and referred to an upcoming Cruise Collection. That article offers a later snapshot of the project in 2019, but does not establish its present collection or operating status. PerthNow’s November 2019 follow-up also mentioned support from public figures and Perth social-scene regulars; this is contemporary reporting, not independent evidence of sales or popularity.
