Janelle Brown wants Kody Brown to have a better relationship with their children, but after he apologized to her in an episode aired in December 2025, she said that outcome still seemed “a long ways away.” Her comment is a judgment about the distance between them—not proof that reconciliation is impossible or a complete update on each child’s private relationship with their father.
What Janelle said after Kody apologized
In the December 2025 episode, Kody visited Janelle in North Carolina and apologized for being angry and bitter about the family breakup. He also said, “I think the meanest thing that I did was I said I didn’t love you. That wasn’t true. That was a lie from the perspective of pain.”
Janelle said she knew he loved her. But she also described their relationship as one that had ended: “It was a great relationship. I still care about him, and I think he still cares about me, but he’s not in my life and I’m not going to be in his life.” She then said she wished he had a better relationship with the children, adding that there would be “a little bit more cohesion for the family” if he did. Her assessment was that this was “a long ways away,” as reported by Us Weekly’s relationship timeline, updated Jan. 8, 2026.
The episode account reports an apology to Janelle; it does not establish that the apology repaired Kody’s relationships with the children.

What is known about Kody and the children
Janelle and Kody share six children: Logan, Madison, Hunter, Garrison, Gabriel, and Savanah, according to the Us Weekly timeline. Garrison died in March 2024 at age 25, the timeline reports; he should not be treated as a living participant in any current reconciliation.
The reporting describes relationships that differed among the children, rather than one uniform family situation. In a November 2023 interview, Janelle said there was “still not a lot of movement” between Kody and their sons Gabriel and Garrison. She said Savanah saw her father and expressed hope that time would heal the rift. Janelle also said peace could matter even if her sons and their father did not fully reconcile.

Those were Janelle’s comments in 2023, not a current status report on all six children. They show that she distinguished between reconciliation and reaching a less strained peace: “Even if they maybe don’t reconcile, but they come to a peace, because I feel like when there’s static in relationships, especially in a parental relationship, it does affect your life,” she told Us Weekly on Nov. 20, 2023.
What Kody has said about reconciliation
Kody’s comments in a November 2023 episode recap conveyed both doubt and uncertainty. “I don’t think we can reconcile, and I don’t disagree with her, but I sometimes feel like, are we just giving up too easy?” he said, according to Entertainment Tonight’s Nov. 12, 2023 recap.

The recap also quoted Kody saying his older children wanted their dad but did not want Robyn, and that he and Robyn would remain together. These are Kody’s stated views in that episode, not independent findings about what the children wanted or a definitive account of where the family stands now.
Why an apology is not the same as reconciliation
The public comments describe different stages and different relationships: Janelle’s 2023 account of limited movement, Kody’s ambivalence in that period, and Janelle’s later response to an apology directed at her. None amounts to confirmation that Kody and his children have reconciled.

In September 2025, Christine Brown framed making amends as something that requires action: contacting the children, calling them, spending time with them, and working on the relationships. “When he fixed his relationships with his kids, that’s when I’ll accept the apology,” she said, as quoted by Parade on Sept. 9, 2025. Parade also reported Kody’s earlier statement that he felt betrayed and would give attention to children open to him; that segment was filmed before Garrison’s death.

The available accounts establish what Janelle, Kody, and Christine said in interviews or on episodes, and when those statements were reported. They do not independently verify the private state of each parent-child relationship, measure the likelihood of future reconciliation, or establish that no private change has occurred since the December 2025 episode. Janelle’s “long ways away” assessment is her view of the prospects at that moment, not a prediction that reconciliation can never happen.
