The reunion began as the 30th anniversary of the band’s debut album, Ruby Vroom, approached. It was followed by a second tour announcement and the band’s first official live album, LIVE 2024.

Why did Soul Coughing reunite?
In a June 20, 2024 report, SPIN described the approaching 30th anniversary of Ruby Vroom as the context for Mike Doughty contacting his former bandmates about playing together. The group’s breakup had been acrimonious, but Doughty and Steinberg described the renewed contact positively. Doughty said, “The end was acrimonious, but I just thought I’d give it a shot.” Steinberg recalled, “When he first reached out it was such a relief.” The anniversary was part of the musicians’ account of how the reunion came about, not necessarily its sole cause.

What came after the reunion tour?
On December 10, 2024, Soul Coughing announced a 14-date North American tour for spring 2025 and LIVE 2024, its first official live album. Those tour dates have passed; this is a record of the announcements, not a notice of current shows or ticket availability. The band said the album was recorded during the September–October 2024 tour and announced its release for April 4, 2025, on CD, 2LP vinyl, and digital services. It contains 21 tracks. The announcement confirmed the formats but does not establish present-day stock or price. The band’s announcement is the source for the release details.

LIVE 2024 captures the reunited band onstage; Soul Coughing’s three studio albums are Ruby Vroom (1994), Irresistible Bliss (1996), and El Oso (1998). The band said its 2025 tour drew from across that catalog. Its album announcement identifies the studio releases and describes the live record’s contents and formats.
