Six winners of the City of Wanneroo’s Search for a Star competition were announced to perform with the Joondalup Symphony Orchestra (JSO) at the city’s free Symphony Under the Stars concert on 22 February 2025. The announcement named three songs for two singers, but not a complete program. The concert was scheduled for 5–9 pm at Kingsway Regional Sporting Complex; the announcement, published the day before, does not confirm whether it went ahead as planned.
Who was announced to perform?
PerthNow reported on 21 February 2025 that six Search for a Star winners would sing alongside JSO:

The announcement said each would perform with the orchestra. It did not specify the songs for four of the six singers.
Which songs were named?
Two singers’ planned selections were identified:
- Sofia Gale: Adele’s “Skyfall”
- Meagen Reyes: Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” and “I Wanna Dance With Somebody”
Those are the three songs named in the report, not a complete set list.

When and where was the concert scheduled?
The City of Wanneroo announced the free Symphony Under the Stars concert for Saturday, 22 February 2025, from 5 to 9 pm at Kingsway Regional Sporting Complex. Since PerthNow’s report appeared on 21 February, it records the plan rather than establishing that the event took place as scheduled.
What made the announced performance notable?
JSO music director Michaela Jones described the 2025 concert as the first Symphony Under the Stars to feature a full symphony orchestra, with JSO taking centre stage in a 70-piece performance. Jones said: “For the first time in its history, Symphony Under the Stars will feature a full symphony orchestra, with JSO taking centre stage in a thrilling 70-piece performance.”

The report called it the City of Wanneroo’s fourth free Symphony Under the Stars event. It also said more than 12,000 people attended the 2023 event at Kingsway. That figure is about the 2023 concert, not the announced 2025 one.

Gale described the opportunity as a chance for local performers and singers to work with an orchestra: “What a phenomenal opportunity it is, to give local performers and local singers the chance to perform with such an orchestra.”

Reyes contrasted the experience with singing to a band or backing track: “I’ve sung for live bands and with backing tracks, but a live orchestra is so different because it’s a full ensemble. They’re relying on you to sing it correctly.”
