Shelby Stone is a North Texas singer-songwriter whose music blends country-rooted writing with a hard-edged rock sound. Raised in Decatur, she came up through the Texas country and Red Dirt scene, and her vivid blue hair—originally the result of a dye mishap—became part of her recognizable image. Her debut album, Silveryear, first reached fans directly in 2025 before its wider streaming release in April 2026.

She attended the University of Texas at Arlington and worked at Fort Worth country radio station 95.9 The Ranch. In a 2024 interview with The Cowboy Channel, she said she had been studying nursing when singing karaoke at a workplace Christmas party prompted her to look more seriously at a music career. She said she picked up guitar in high school and played her first show on Valentine’s Day 2020.
Her early radio connection also helped bring her songs to local listeners. WME says “Each Other” appeared on 95.9 The Ranch’s chart before its official release, and “How Much More” later spent two consecutive weeks at number one on that station’s chart. Those are station-specific milestones, not a measure of national chart performance.

What kind of music does Shelby Stone make?
Stone’s music sits in the Texas country and Red Dirt orbit, but she describes a strong rock influence. In an April 2026 interview with Texas Lifestyle Magazine, she named Joan Jett and Reba as influences, saying country was part of life at home while rock was part of the rodeo environment she grew up around. She characterized her sound as “a lot of rock,” while comparing the writing sensibility to Guy Clark and Jason Isbell.
Those comparisons help explain the contrast in her songs: a forceful, rock-oriented delivery alongside country storytelling and emotionally direct lyrics. They are Stone’s own descriptions of her influences and approach, rather than formal genre labels.

- Recorded at Nashville's historic RCA Studio A, with additional production at The Castle and Blackbird Studio, Traveller was produced by Dave Cobb (Sturgill Simpson, Jason Isbell) and recorded by Vance Powell (Jack White)
Her songwriting can be personal enough to make performance difficult. Stone told Texas Lifestyle Magazine that “All I Ever Wanted” was hard to sing because of its vulnerability, but that she thinks about the listener who might need to hear it. She called Silveryear “my emotional scrapbook,” describing the songs as a record of her experiences and growth.
Why does Shelby Stone have blue hair?
The blue hair was not a planned branding choice from the start. Stone told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that it began while she was preparing for a music video shoot in Kerrville. A product used to strip color left her with white roots and red hair; she put blue over the roots and black over the red sections.

She later embraced the result, calling it “an accident” that became “one of the greatest ones” and “an easily marketable accident.” The story is a useful counterpoint to the assumption that a distinctive artist image must have been designed as a strategy from day one.
What is Silveryear, and how was it released?
Silveryear is Stone’s debut album. Kimes Ranch’s announcement dates its initial physical and direct digital release to August 8, 2025. Rather than beginning with a broad streaming launch, Stone first made it available directly to supporters; the Star-Telegram reported downloads through her website and physical copies at shows. Streaming was reported to begin on April 3, 2026.
Kimes Ranch reported that more than 1,000 copies sold in the album’s first week and that the first vinyl pressing sold through in under an hour. Those figures come from the brand’s 2026 partnership announcement and are not independently audited sales data. The Star-Telegram also described a concert merchandise pack with a CD, liner notes, digital album, koozie, and stickers.
The route to listeners has therefore included multiple formats, with access and timing differing by format:

Stone’s path connects local radio, direct-to-fan releases, and performances alongside established country and Red Dirt acts. The Star-Telegram reported that she opened for Cross Canadian Ragweed, Turnpike Troubadours, and American Aquarium. Its April 2026 article also said she was scheduled to make her Billy Bob’s Texas debut that month; that is a historical booking, not a current show listing.
Her album’s direct release and the personal framing of its songs fit a career built around keeping a close relationship with listeners. The Star-Telegram reported nearly 20,000 monthly Spotify listeners in its April 2026 profile; that is a dated snapshot, not a current audience count.
For new show dates, check Stone’s official website; the available page does not establish a current dated schedule.
