In a January 2025 interview with Chris Van Vliet, he said he wanted to keep wrestling while he loved the work and remained physically able. A new five-year deal was discussed as taking him to age 52, but he did not say he would retire at 52.
What did Sheamus say about retiring?
Asked whether he was thinking about retirement, Sheamus answered, “Not really.” He then described a conditional approach: “I’ll go till the wheels fall off me. [I] could do it until physically I can’t do it anymore. I love what I do.” The remarks came in his January 7, 2025 interview with Chris Van Vliet, whose interview transcript records the exchange.
That is an intention to continue for as long as his health and enthusiasm allow—not a scheduled end date or an official WWE retirement announcement.
Does his five-year WWE deal mean he will retire at 52?
No. In the interview, Sheamus said he had signed a new five-year deal. When Van Vliet asked whether that would take him into his 50s, Sheamus replied that his wife reminded him of “52.” The exchange describes the deal’s expected age horizon; it does not establish that he will wrestle for every year of the deal or stop at 52. Wrestling Inc. also reported the remarks on January 18, 2025, crediting the podcast for the discussion: its report on Sheamus’s retirement plans.

How did his neck injury shape his view?
Sheamus also reflected on the period when a neck injury threatened his career. He said he would have been at peace if he had needed to retire then: “if I had to hang up my boots when that stuff happened with my neck I’d be at peace with it.” He added that some performers who retire before they feel ready seem to carry regret. Pro Wrestling Dot Net’s January 7, 2025 interview highlights also cover those remarks.
His comments describe how he thinks about the possibility of ending his career; they do not announce a current medical issue or a decision to leave WWE. WWE’s December 11, 2013 interview about his shoulder-injury recovery is historical background, not evidence of his present health or retirement plans.
