Severance Season 3 was filming by late July 2026, but its exact first day on set has not been confirmed. Ben Stiller is reported to be stepping back from directing Season 3 episodes while remaining an executive producer. Apple has not announced a premiere date or release window; fall 2027 is only a conditional media estimate.
When did Severance Season 3 start filming?
Filming was underway by late July 2026, though the exact first day of production has not been established. On July 27, 9to5Mac reported that a production image from Ben Stiller and an Apple TV repost indicated filming had just begun. TV Insider also covered the public tease that day and noted earlier reports pointing to a July start.

Adam Scott provided a clearer update on August 25. As reported by TheWrap after his appearance on the Today show, Scott said, “Shooting is officially underway for Season 3,” and explained that the cast and crew had been working for a few weeks. That supports a July start, but it does not identify the first shooting date. TheWrap’s August 25 report has Scott’s production update.
What is Ben Stiller’s role in Season 3?
Apple’s March 21, 2025 renewal announcement listed Stiller as an executive producer and director, but did not assign him to direct particular Season 3 episodes. GamesRadar reported on April 27, 2026 that he would not direct any episodes of the new season. The report also cited Stiller saying he looked forward to directing the series again “at some point.”

So the distinction is between his continuing producer role and his reported absence from the Season 3 directing roster: Apple’s renewal release credits him as an executive producer, while the change to his directing involvement comes from reporting, not a formal Apple announcement. GamesRadar’s report on Stiller’s directing role explains the change.
When will Severance Season 3 premiere?
Apple has not announced a Season 3 premiere date or official release window. Scott said the team was doing what it could to avoid another three-year gap, but added, “You never know.” His comments express a goal, not a timetable.

9to5Mac floated fall 2027 as a possible return, using assumed filming of six to nine months followed by roughly six months of post-production. Those durations are inputs to the outlet’s estimate, not confirmed production schedules, and fall 2027 should not be treated as Apple’s target. The safest answer is that the season is in production and its release timing remains unannounced.
