Slayer’s “reunion for festival headlining gigs this fall” refers to a 2024 announcement, not a new 2026 fall announcement. The band said it would return to the stage that September to headline Louder Than Life in Louisville and Riot Fest in Chicago. Later listings add separate 2026 appearances: Sick New World Texas on October 24 and a Reign in Blood 40th-anniversary show at the Kia Forum on November 13.
What the original fall reunion announcement meant
On February 21, 2024, Slayer announced two festival headlining performances for that September: Louder Than Life in Louisville and Riot Fest in Chicago. The shows marked the band’s return to live performance after its farewell tour concluded in 2019. The 2024 announcement and lineup were reported at the time.
The lineup associated with those 2024 dates was Tom Araya on bass and vocals, Kerry King and Gary Holt on guitar, and Paul Bostaph on drums. That lineup detail applies to the 2024 announcement; it should not be assumed for later dates without date-specific confirmation.
Slayer dates listed for 2026
Later announcements and event listings name two 2026 appearances, in different settings. One is a festival appearance in Texas; the other is a Kia Forum date billed around the 40th anniversary of Reign in Blood.

Slayer released Reign in Blood in 1986, making 2026 its 40th-anniversary year. The record’s anniversary is the stated theme of the Kia Forum listing, and Louder reported a full-album performance. Nuclear Blast also framed the 2026 dates around the album anniversary in its anniversary announcement.
