Gary Neville was not expected to face action from Sky Sports over his remarks about political division and flag displays, according to reporting published on 7 October 2025. The coverage describes an expected outcome, not a public decision confirmed by Sky.
What was reported about Sky Sports’ decision?
The Standard reported on 7 October 2025 that Neville was “not expected to face any action from Sky Sports.” FourFourTwo also reported that he would not lose his Sky Sports role. Neither report, as reviewed, cites a named Sky spokesperson or reproduces an official company announcement. The precise conclusion is therefore that he was reportedly not expected to face action—not that Sky publicly confirmed a formal decision.
What did Gary Neville say?
The reports described a video Neville posted over the weekend following a deadly attack at a synagogue in Crumpsall, Greater Manchester. In it, he discussed the attack, displays of Union and St George’s Cross flags, and what he saw as growing division.
The Standard quoted Neville saying: “The division that’s being created is absolutely disgusting. Mainly created by angry, middle-aged white men, who know exactly what they’re doing.”

FourFourTwo also reproduced remarks attributed to Neville in which he said a Union Jack used in a negative fashion was wrong, while describing himself as a proud supporter of England and Great Britain. That wording is reported by the publication; it should not be treated as an independently verified transcript.

The coverage presents Neville’s remarks about the synagogue attack and his comments on flags and division as parts of the same video. It does not establish that flag displays caused the attack, or that Neville blamed the attack on people raising flags.
The Standard linked the flag displays to Operation Raise the Colours and attributed information about the campaign’s co-founder to advocacy group Hope Not Hate. That background does not change what the employment reporting establishes: an expectation that Neville would face no action, rather than a confirmed public announcement by Sky.
