Sherri Saum introduced her newborn twin sons, John Rubén and Michael Luís, in a PEOPLE interview published August 6, 2014. The boys were born on May 13; Saum shared how she chose their names, what she noticed about their early personalities and how she and her husband, actor Kamar de los Reyes, coordinated care.
Introducing John Rubén and Michael Luís
PEOPLE’s August 6, 2014, feature paired first photos of the twins with Saum’s account of their arrival and their first weeks at home. Us Weekly reported the birth the day after it happened, attributing the birth details to Saum’s representative: John Rubén weighed 5 lb 7 oz and Michael Luís weighed 5 lb 15 oz. Those figures describe the boys at birth, not a medical benchmark.
How Saum matched names to the boys
Saum said she did not settle on which name belonged to which baby until she met them. She associated John with his quiet arrival and Michael with a more masculine impression. These were her personal impressions, not fixed descriptions of the boys.
What she noticed about their early temperaments
In the PEOPLE interview, Saum described Michael as energetic and John as observant and mellow. The next day, ABC News reported that the boys were fraternal twins. Saum also said Michael was larger and that, at night, the two could be difficult to distinguish on a baby monitor.

Coordinating care and sleep
Saum said she and de los Reyes worked together on feeding and bathing, describing their routine to ABC News as “a factory-like system” for those tasks. They used side-by-side cribs. She said the boys followed the same daytime schedule, while nights were less predictable.
The nursery and the lead-up to the birth
Saum called the nursery “such a beautiful, calm oasis” in the PEOPLE interview. Months earlier, at a baby shower covered by ABC News on April 1, 2014, she had said she was expecting boys and joked, “Chaos will reign.” That comment came during her pregnancy, before the twins’ May birth.

ABC News followed on August 7 with more about the couple’s shared routine and the boys’ resemblance on a monitor. Us Weekly’s May 14 birth report supplies the individual birth weights.
