Was this Violet’s first performance with Nirvana’s surviving members?
No. Dave Grohl said in a 2021 interview that Violet had performed “Heart-Shaped Box” with the surviving members at a 2020 Art of Elysium event. Speaking about that earlier performance, he described a sense of connection and said he was sharing a chapter of his life with her that she had not experienced. He also said Violet contributed backing vocals to Foo Fighters’ “Making a Fire.” Grohl’s interview with Rolling Stone discusses those earlier musical moments.

No ongoing lineup, tour or permanent new singer was announced in connection with FireAid. The reporting describes a benefit-concert appearance, not a continuing reunion. Rolling Stone UK reported that the surviving members had last taken the stage together in 2018 before this performance and recounted earlier post-Kurt Cobain appearances. Its account also identifies Violet as 18 at FireAid. Rolling Stone UK’s coverage provides that chronology.
