The storyline had already brought the four participants together. WWE’s listing for the July 11 SmackDown segment says Paul stopped Jelly Roll’s concert while McIntyre attacked Orton. July 25: WWE promotes Paul’s Cleveland return
WWE’s July 25 preview framed the next week’s SmackDown as Paul’s return to his hometown of Cleveland and promoted the SummerSlam tag match between Paul and McIntyre and Orton and Jelly Roll. Read WWE’s preview.

The Cleveland SmackDown brought the four opponents into a physical confrontation on the eve of SummerSlam. The segment set the stage for their scheduled tag match rather than resolving the rivalry in a singles contest.

What happened at SummerSlam?
At SummerSlam, Jelly Roll and Orton defeated McIntyre and Paul. WWE’s event account says Jelly Roll pushed Paul off the ringside floor, giving Orton an opening to hit McIntyre with an RKO and secure the win.
