Prosecutors presented texts, travel and financial records, witness testimony, and hotel evidence to argue that Combs’s network coordinated paid sexual encounters and related activity. On July 2, the jury found him guilty on counts 3 and 5 and not guilty on counts 1, 2, and 4. The texts and damaged-room records were evidence presented at trial; they are not, by themselves, a verdict on every allegation.
What the June 23 report described
Cheyenne Roundtree’s Rolling Stone report, published June 23, 2025, covered the prosecution’s case during the sixth week of trial. Prosecutors used photographs, text messages, bank statements, hotel records, and travel itineraries to argue that Combs used business resources to arrange travel for Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, another witness identified in court as “Jane,” and male escorts for days-long sexual encounters prosecutors called “freak-offs.”
Rolling Stone said prosecutors connected records to more than a dozen instances of paid cross-country flights for male escorts between 2009 and 2024. That number reflects the prosecution’s reconstruction from records as described in the report; it is not a judicial finding that every alleged encounter was criminal.
What former employee Brendan Paul testified
Brendan Paul, a former employee, testified that he purchased and delivered drugs while working as Combs’s personal assistant. According to Rolling Stone, Paul denied being Combs’s drug “mule,” said he had delivered drugs five to ten times during his 18-month tenure, and described an incident in which he said drugs ended up in his luggage after he swept Combs’s room. Prosecutors used his testimony to support their racketeering-conspiracy theory; his account remains testimony, not a finding that establishes every part of that theory.

What did the texts say?
Prosecutors introduced a summary chart containing March 13, 2017 messages in a timeline of the relationship and alleged “freak-offs.” After a discussion involving male escorts and a hotel room, Ventura texted about an apparent altercation: “You [beat] my head in.” In another message, she wrote, “No, I just don’t want to be beat down for being defiant or ever.” Combs’s reply included a sexually explicit complaint about an encounter.
These were selected messages presented as evidence, not a complete account of the relationship. Their meaning and context were matters for the jury to assess alongside the rest of the trial record; an individual message should not be treated as a verdict on an allegation.

The separate 2016 hotel-video evidence
A separate set of evidence concerned a March 2016 incident at the InterContinental Hotel in Los Angeles and surveillance video of an assault. Trial reporting described staff communications and hotel-security testimony after the incident. The Associated Press reported that hotel security guard Eddy Garcia testified about a $100,000 payment for the video. That alleged payment relates to the video, not to hotel-room repairs.
What happened to the hotel rooms?
Rolling Stone described invoices for thousands of dollars in alleged damage and housekeeping photographs of suites in disarray, including oil-soaked bedding, soiled linens, and bottles. One hotel record from June 2023, quoted in the report, said a new mattress was oil-soaked and the housekeeper could not put new sheets on it. The report described selected records and photographs; it did not establish a comprehensive count of damaged rooms or a total cost for all rooms.

ABC News separately reported that evidence shown to jurors attributed more than $46,000 in damage to a room at the InterContinental Hotel in Manhattan’s Times Square. This is a specific room-damage figure reported by ABC, not a total for every hotel incident.
Keep the financial figures distinct
ABC News also described a monthly credit-card bill totaling $944,059 in charges, paid through multiple bank accounts controlled by Combs’s companies. That figure is a bill for charges, not the cost of damage to a room. It should also be kept separate from the $100,000 payment for the Los Angeles surveillance video described in trial reporting.

How the prosecution and defense treated the record
Prosecutors argued that texts, travel arrangements, payments, staff activity, and hotel records showed coordinated conduct and supported their criminal theories. The defense challenged the prosecution’s interpretation of the evidence. The Associated Press reported that prosecutors called 34 witnesses over seven weeks. Witness accounts and documents were evidence for the jury to weigh; their introduction did not mean the jury accepted every allegation tied to them.
The verdict reflects the distinction between the charges. On July 2, 2025, the jury found Combs guilty on counts 3 and 5 and not guilty on counts 1, 2, and 4. Those results should not be collapsed into a statement that he was convicted on all charges, nor should acquitted counts be described as convictions.

What was the verdict in the Sean Combs trial?
The trial’s schedule was still unresolved when the June 23 Rolling Stone story appeared. At that point, the judge expected the trial to finish by the July 4 holiday, and the report forecast that deliberations might begin as early as Friday. The later docket records the prosecution resting and the defense resting on June 24, government summation on June 26, defense summation and government rebuttal on June 27, deliberations beginning June 30, and the verdict on July 2, 2025.
The contemporaneous report’s schedule was a forecast, not the eventual chronology. The docket supports the count-by-count verdict and dates; it does not, by itself, supply the offense names for those counts.
