Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones, a producer who said he worked on Sean “Diddy” Combs’s 2023 album The Love Album: Off the Grid, sued Combs in February 2024. Jones’s complaint alleged sexual harassment, threats and other misconduct, and sought $30 million. In March 2025, a federal judge dismissed some claims and allowed others to proceed; a separate countersuit over footage was reported in 2026.

Who is Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones?

Jones is a music producer who said he worked on Combs’s 2023 album The Love Album: Off the Grid. His February 2024 civil lawsuit described experiences he said went beyond his work as a producer. The Los Angeles Times, reporting on the filing on February 27, 2024, quoted the complaint: “Throughout his time with Mr. Combs, Mr. Jones witnessed, experienced, and endured many things that went far beyond his role as a Producer on the Love album.” That was Jones’s characterization in a pleading, not a finding by a court.

What did Jones accuse Combs of?

Jones’s complaint alleged sexual harassment, threats and other misconduct by Combs. Jones sought $30 million in damages. Those were allegations in a civil complaint; the filing itself did not establish that they were true, and the court’s later procedural ruling was not a verdict on every allegation.

What happened to the lawsuit in 2025?

On March 24, 2025, U.S. District Judge J. Paul Oetken ruled on the Combs defendants’ motion to dismiss. The order granted dismissal in part and denied it in part, meaning some claims were dismissed at that stage while other claims were permitted to remain.

What Did Diddy Do? [DVD]
  • From music mogul to controversy, Sean Combs' life is full of highs and lows, but the central mystery remains: What did Diddy do?
Claims addressed in the order Ruling
RICO claims Dismissed
Emotional-distress claims Dismissed
Contract claims Dismissed
TVPA claim against Combs Global Dismissed
Other claims Dismissal denied; those claims were allowed to remain at this stage

The order does not mean that the court found every allegation true or false. It resolved which claims could proceed past the motion-to-dismiss stage, not the ultimate merits of all the allegations. The ruling also identifies the TVPA dismissal as applying to the claim against Combs Global; it should not be broadened into a statement that every claim involving the TVPA was dismissed.

Did Combs countersue Jones?

Complex reported in August 2026 that Combs filed a countersuit accusing Jones of obtaining footage without authorization and selling it for the Netflix documentary Sean Combs: The Reckoning. The same report said Netflix and the documentary’s director disputed Combs’s account of the footage. These are reported claims and responses, not an adjudicated resolution. The reporting cited here does not establish the countersuit’s latest docket status or outcome.

How is Jones’s civil case different from Combs’s criminal case?

Jones’s lawsuit is a civil case about claims he brought against Combs. Combs’s criminal prosecution was a separate proceeding brought by the government, with different charges and a jury verdict. The Associated Press reported that a jury in July 2025 convicted Combs of two prostitution-related offenses and acquitted him of racketeering and sex-trafficking charges. AP later reported that he was sentenced in October 2025 to more than four years. Those criminal-case outcomes do not decide the allegations in Jones’s civil suit.
