Blue Eye Samurai season 2 is confirmed, and Netflix says it will arrive in January 2027. The new season sends Mizu’s revenge quest to London while Akemi and Taigen face court politics in Japan and Ringo searches for a new purpose.
When does Blue Eye Samurai season 2 come out?
Netflix’s latest announcement, published August 21, 2026, gives the release month as January 2027. It does not specify a premiere day. An earlier Netflix slate published June 23, 2026, listed the season as “Coming Soon”; the later update provides the newer timing. Netflix Tudum’s season 2 update includes the release-month announcement.
What is season 2 about?
Mizu’s hunt moves to London
Mizu continues her bloody quest for revenge in London, where Netflix says she will encounter new friends, old foes, and her own demons. The shift takes part of the story beyond the Edo-period Japan setting of season 1.
Akemi, Taigen, and Ringo in Japan
Back in Japan, Akemi and Taigen must navigate Edo Castle under a dangerous new shogun. Ringo, meanwhile, searches for a new purpose. Netflix has not released a detailed episode-by-episode synopsis.

Creators Amber Noizumi and Michael Green return as writers and executive producers. Netflix also credits Erwin Stoff as executive producer and Jane Wu as supervising director and producer. Blue Spirit is the animation studio.

Netflix’s December 12, 2023 renewal announcement described the show as an adult animated series set in Edo-period Japan, following Mizu, a mixed-race master of the sword who lives in disguise and pursues revenge. The series is rated TV-MA. The announcement also quoted Noizumi and Green on the team’s aim to bring the story to life with the work of animators, historians, musicians, martial artists, and the voice cast. Yes. Netflix says the story will reach its “epic conclusion” with season 3 in 2028. The company has not announced a specific release date for that season.
