What were the prosecution and defense arguments?
Prosecutors alleged coercion and abuse. Testimony from former partners was part of the trial; their accounts and the prosecution’s allegations should be distinguished from the jury’s findings.
The defense argued that the sexual encounters were consensual and did not amount to sex trafficking or racketeering. AP’s May 2025 coverage described the defense position as acknowledging that Combs could be violent while disputing that the conduct constituted those crimes. These were arguments presented at trial, not the jury’s verdict.

What sentence did he receive?
On October 3, 2025, Judge Subramanian sentenced Combs to 50 months in prison for the transportation convictions, as reported by Reuters. At sentencing, the judge said: “The court rejects the defense’s attempt to characterize what happened here as merely intimate, consensual experiences, or just a sex, drugs, and rock-and-roll story.” That was the judge’s sentencing remark; it does not change the jury’s acquittals on racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking.
What is the status of Combs’s appeal?
The appeal is before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. The appellate docket listing records the case before a panel on April 9, 2026, and AP reported that the panel heard oral argument that day without immediately ruling. The available procedural reporting does not establish whether the court issued a later decision by October 8, 2026, so that date should not be treated as confirmation that the appeal remains undecided.
