What did the 2024 indictment allege?
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York announced a three-count indictment on September 17, 2024. The office wrote: ““Diddy,” a/k/a “PD,” a/k/a “Love,” was arrested last night and charged in a three count Indictment with racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution.” These were prosecutors’ charges and allegations at that stage, not findings by a jury.
The office’s announcement described the counts as racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion, and transportation to engage in prostitution. It also listed potential penalties under the charged statutes: life imprisonment for racketeering conspiracy; life imprisonment with a 15-year mandatory minimum for sex trafficking; and up to 10 years for transportation to engage in prostitution. What was the trial verdict?
On July 2, 2025, the jury acquitted Combs of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking, but convicted him on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. The result was a split verdict: it would be inaccurate to say that the jury convicted him of sex trafficking. The verdict and subsequent sentence were reported by The Guardian.

How long was Combs sentenced to prison?
On October 3, 2025, Combs received a 50-month prison sentence, as reported by The Guardian. That was the sentence imposed after the jury’s two transportation-count convictions, not the maximum penalties prosecutors had listed when announcing the 2024 charges.
What is the status of the appeal?
The Second Circuit heard oral argument on April 9, 2026, and did not issue an immediate ruling. The Associated Press reported that Circuit Judge William J. Nardini called it an “exceptionally difficult case” raising questions of first impression “not only for this court but for any federal court in the country.” The available Justia docket listing records the hearing, but does not establish whether the court ruled afterward. The appeal’s disposition after April 9, 2026, is therefore not confirmed here.
