Sean Combs’s projected release date was reported as January 21, 2028, on September 30, but two reports on October 7 said it had moved later. E! reported March 8, while Us Weekly reported March 2, 2028; both attributed their dates to Bureau of Prisons records they viewed. The reports conflict, and neither date can be treated as independently confirmed here.
What is Sean Combs’s current projected release date?
The latest reports disagree. E! said the Bureau of Prisons record it viewed listed March 8, 2028. Us Weekly said the record it viewed listed March 2, 2028, and reported that the BOP would not comment on the reason for the individual change. The BOP’s public locator page does not expose Combs’s live record in the available page view, so the conflicting dates remain reported projections, not a verified current release date.
| Report | Projected date reported | Basis stated by the outlet |
|---|---|---|
| Los Angeles Times, September 30, 2026 | January 21, 2028 | Reported as the BOP projection: Los Angeles Times |
| E!, October 7, 2026 | March 8, 2028 | BOP records the outlet said it viewed: E! |
| Us Weekly, October 7, 2026 | March 2, 2028 | BOP records the outlet said it viewed: Us Weekly |
Why might the date change?
The BOP says its inmate locator may not show an up-to-date release date while sentences are reviewed and recalculated to address pending First Step Act time-credit changes. The agency advises visitors to check back for updates. That general warning does not establish why Combs’s individual projection changed; Us Weekly reported that the BOP declined to explain the adjustment.
A projected release date is an administrative calculation, not a guarantee. The BOP’s locator states: “As a result, an inmate’s release date may not be up-to-date.” BOP Inmate Locator

How the projection relates to Combs’s sentence
On October 3, 2025, Combs received a 50-month federal prison sentence after being convicted on two counts involving transportation for prostitution under the Mann Act. He was acquitted of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking. The Associated Press reported that he had already spent about a year in jail by the time of sentencing. The sentence length and the later projected release date are different measures: the projection reflects time already served and administrative calculations as well as the sentence imposed.
