What is The Legend of Monkey Island?
Rare made the crossover with Lucasfilm Games as an original story told across three Tall Tales, according to Rare’s announcement. Xbox Wire reported in June 2023 that all three would be free for Sea of Thieves players at launch; this describes the announced access terms, not current availability on every platform or storefront. Why Minotti says the crossover fits
Mêlée Island feels recognizably like Monkey Island
Minotti’s review focuses on the first installment, which takes players to Mêlée Island, the opening location of The Secret of Monkey Island. He describes the 3D recreation as visually striking and reminiscent of the original game. The arrival by ship through fog, accompanied by the Monkey Island theme, is one of the details he highlights. Puzzles take the lead over the usual Sea of Thieves loop
Rather than centering the experience on sailing and treasure hunting, the Tall Tale puts more emphasis on puzzle-solving, in Minotti’s account. He points to a dog with a bone that players must obtain by solving a puzzle. That shift helps the crossover feel like an adventure game while placing it inside Sea of Thieves.

Crews can solve the adventure together
Minotti reports playing cooperatively. Crew members can stick together or split up to look for puzzle items and currency. That gives players room to approach the search as a group or divide tasks, while retaining the shared-world crew dynamic of Sea of Thieves.
Familiar characters and voices complete the tribute
The review also emphasizes returning characters and voices, including Dominic Armato as Guybrush Threepwood. For Minotti, those recognizable elements make the Tall Tale feel less like a simple visual reference and more like a new Monkey Island adventure adapted to Sea of Thieves.

Is “perfect marriage” a fair verdict?
It is fair as a description of Minotti’s response: he argues that Monkey Island’s identity survives the move into Sea of Thieves, especially through the island recreation, puzzle-focused play and familiar cast. He concludes, “Again, this feels just like a new Monkey Island game, and it’s incredible to see it work within the Sea of Thieves framework.” The phrase is his opinion, not evidence of broad agreement; the review offers qualitative impressions rather than a measured comparison or consensus result.
