As of October 8, 2026, a new Saw film has been announced, with Mike Flanagan directing, according to September 2026 reports. But that does not establish that it is the same project as the earlier Saw XI, whose 2025 release date was removed. Billy the Puppet’s 2025 “game is never over” message was promotional reassurance—not confirmation that filming had begun or that a release date was set.
What the new Saw announcement confirms—and what it doesn’t
September 2026 coverage reports that Lionsgate and Blumhouse/Atomic Monster announced a new Saw film with Mike Flanagan directing. A separate report described a video on an official Saw account showing Billy beside a script marked “UNTITLED SAW.” Together, those reports support saying that a new Saw project has been announced, but not that its final title is Saw XI.
The announcement coverage does not establish a release date, a production start, a cast, or whether the film continues or reworks the script associated with the earlier Saw XI. Those details remain unconfirmed in the available reporting. September 2026 announcement coverage | Report on the official-account video
Why Billy said the game was never over
In March 2025, Lionsgate removed Saw XI from its release calendar, where it had been scheduled for September 26, 2025. The slot went to The Strangers: Chapter 2. Alongside that calendar change, Lionsgate circulated a message in Billy’s voice: “I’ve seen the rumors. They say it’s Game Over. You all should know me better than that. The game is never over.”

That was a playful franchise-promotional message, not a production notice. It signaled that the series’ future was not being ruled out, but it did not confirm that Saw XI was moving ahead, name a replacement date, or say a film was being made. TheWrap’s March 2025 report
