Savannah Chrisley said she held back details about her mother Julie’s whereabouts and treatment before Julie’s September 25, 2024 resentencing because she feared public remarks could be used against the family or jeopardize Julie’s freedom. She also said her lawyers advised her to stay quiet until after the hearing.
What Savannah said about her silence
In a September 24, 2024 episode of Unlocked with Savannah Chrisley, Savannah responded to listeners asking for an update. She said she was not deliberately withholding information, but was being careful about what she said while the resentencing was pending. Her concern centered on Julie’s whereabouts and treatment, including listeners’ worries that Julie might be moved to a “secret location.”
“I don’t want to jeopardize her freedom because of things that I say,” Savannah said, according to Yahoo Entertainment’s contemporaneous report, which attributed the comments to PEOPLE. She also said, “Now when people are worried about the safety of my mother, I am silent,” then added, “But I’m silent because I’m worried about it too.” These quotations are as reported by the outlet; the account is not an original podcast transcript.
Why Julie was facing resentencing
In June 2024, the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the Chrisleys’ convictions but found a sentencing error involving Julie’s responsibility for the bank-fraud scheme. It sent Julie’s case back for resentencing. The September hearing was therefore about correcting a sentencing calculation, not a new trial on the convictions.

What happened at the September 25 hearing
Julie was resentenced to seven years in prison. Savannah attended the hearing and criticized the outcome outside the courthouse, according to the Associated Press.
How to understand the later pardon
The resentencing and Savannah’s explanation of her silence are events from 2024. In 2025, the Associated Press reported that President Donald Trump pardoned Todd and Julie Chrisley. That later development is separate from the reason Savannah gave for limiting her comments before Julie’s hearing; her concern was her own stated explanation, not a court finding that her remarks would affect the sentence. See the Associated Press report on the pardons.
