Hannah Montana premiered on Disney Channel in 2006, and its 20th anniversary arrived in 2026. The anniversary brought a Miley Cyrus-led special and a separate red-carpet gathering of former cast members—not a full original-cast reunion special. Here’s who played the Stewarts’ family and friends, who marked the milestone, and what selected cast members were doing in career updates reported in March 2026.
Who played the main characters?
| Actor | Character | Role in the series |
|---|---|---|
| Miley Cyrus | Miley Stewart / Hannah Montana | A teenager balancing her everyday identity with a secret pop-star persona |
| Emily Osment | Lilly Truscott | Miley’s close friend |
| Mitchel Musso | Oliver Oken | Miley and Lilly’s friend |
| Jason Earles | Jackson Stewart | Miley’s older brother |
| Billy Ray Cyrus | Robby Ray Stewart | Miley’s father and manager |
| Moisés Arias | Rico Suave | A young entrepreneur who works with Jackson |
The series ran for four seasons from 2006 to 2010, according to Disney’s anniversary announcement.
What happened for the 20th anniversary?
The special centered on Miley Cyrus
The anniversary special premiered March 24, 2026, on Miley Cyrus’s 20th-anniversary marker for the show. It revisited the series with archival footage, an interview, music, and appearances by family and friends. It was not billed as a full-cast reunion. Disney announced that it would stream on Disney+ and Hulu; the available catalog can vary by region and date. Disney’s D23 page also lists the series collection, the 2008 Best of Both Worlds concert film, and Hannah Montana: The Movie.
Cyrus described returning to the material as a celebration rather than the experience of making the show amid its demanding schedule. “So it is a new perspective. I love that,” she told the Associated Press. At the premiere, she told the audience: “Without you all, this show would have never been what it is, and I love saying what it is, not what it was.” (Associated Press, March 24, 2026.)

At the Los Angeles premiere on March 23, Cyrus reunited on the carpet with original-series cast members Jason Earles, Moisés Arias, Cody Linley, Anna Maria Perez de Tagle, and Shanica Knowles. A red-carpet appearance does not mean someone appeared in the special. The Associated Press covered the event, and Disney’s April 23 feature names the same attendees.
Emily Osment and Mitchel Musso were not at the premiere and did not appear in the special, according to TheWrap’s March 24 coverage. Osment posted that she was filming Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. The reporting does not establish that either actor declined an invitation.

Linley, Perez de Tagle, and Knowles attended the premiere, but attendance alone does not establish their current professional activity or an appearance in the special. Linley reflected to the Associated Press on the difference between a teen-heartthrob image and the person behind it: “It’s an image that they are seeing. It’s not you.”
