The two 2026 documentaries highlighted for Netflix and Apple TV are no longer upcoming: Netflix lists Turning Point: Generation 9/11 as released in the United States on September 2, 2026, and Apple TV’s U.S. catalog lists 9/11 Remembered: 25 Years Later as a 42-minute documentary special. They take different approaches: one follows the attacks’ long personal and geopolitical legacy, while the other is a memorial program.
What are the Netflix and Apple TV documentaries about?
Turning Point: Generation 9/11 on Netflix
Netflix’s Media Center lists the U.S. release date as September 2, 2026. The documentary looks at how 9/11 shaped a generation, including bereaved children, journalists, young Afghans and Marines. Netflix’s title page describes it as a 2026 TV-MA documentary using firsthand accounts of the attacks and their aftermath.

9/11 Remembered: 25 Years Later on Apple TV
Apple TV’s U.S. catalog lists the 2026 documentary special at 42 minutes. Its framing is commemorative, honoring those affected by the attacks and the courage and response associated with that day. It is a short memorial program, rather than a multi-part historical series.
How do these titles differ from earlier 9/11 documentaries?
The similar titles can make it easy to mistake the new programs for earlier productions. These are separate works with distinct scopes:

| Turning Point: Generation 9/11 | Netflix; U.S. release listed as September 2, 2026 | The attacks’ long personal and geopolitical legacy, including the next generation and Afghanistan. |
| 9/11 Remembered: 25 Years Later | Apple TV U.S. catalog; 2026; 42 minutes | A commemorative special honoring the attacks and the courage and response associated with them. |
| Turning Point: 9/11 and the War on Terror | Earlier Netflix five-part docuseries | The origins of the attacks, intelligence failures, the attacks themselves and consequences through the war on terror. |
| 9/11: Inside the President’s War Room | Apple and BBC; announced July 8, 2021 | Presidential decision-making during the 12 hours after the attacks. |
The earlier Netflix series
Turning Point: 9/11 and the War on Terror is a five-part series, not another name for Generation 9/11. Netflix describes it as covering the attacks, their origins and the ensuing war on terror. Its broader historical arc contrasts with the 2026 documentary’s emphasis on people shaped by 9/11 over time.
The earlier Apple and BBC documentary
9/11: Inside the President’s War Room focuses on decisions made in the White House and aboard Air Force One. In its July 8, 2021 announcement, Apple said the film “recounts the 12 hours after the strike on that momentous day” and would include testimony from senior officials and “nearly 200 never previously published photographs.” Those details refer to the 2021 production, not Apple’s 2026 memorial special.

- The very idea of the United States being attacked by air was unimaginable and unexpected. On the morning of September 11, 2001, 14 fighter planes, dispersed among seven bases, were responsible for the country's mainland air defense; four alone responsible for the entire North East. At 9:44 a.m. an order was given that had never been attempted before, to go to Condition Air Traffic Control Zero - t

- Four planes had been hijacked. One would crash into the Pentagon, one would be brought down in a field in Pennsylvania. Two would crash into the World Trade Center where thousands would lose their lives. No one could believe the devastation, over which a single flag would rise, in a place called Ground Zero. Now In Memoriam: New York City, 9/11/01 draws on an incredible gathering of still and video
