Seattle Worldcon 2025—Worldcon 83—was held August 13–17, 2025, in downtown Seattle. Its main venue was the Seattle Convention Center Summit building, with activity also involving the Sheraton Grand Seattle and nearby hotels. The five-day convention brought together speculative-fiction writers, artists and fans for author events, the Hugo Awards, costuming, music, film and social programming.
When was Seattle Worldcon 2025?
Worldcon 83 ran from August 13 through August 17, 2025. It was the 83rd World Science Fiction Convention, held under the theme “Building Yesterday’s Future — for Everyone.” Seattle was selected as the site in a 2023 World Science Fiction Convention site-selection vote: the announcement reported 163 votes for Seattle, one write-in for Peggy Rae’s House, two write-ins for Xerps in 2010, and 168 ballots cast. It also reported two no-preference ballots. The election administrator did not separately report advance and on-site ballots; an estimate attributed to 2023 WSFS Business Meeting chair Donald Eastlake III put the split at 149 or 150 mail ballots and 18 or 19 on-site ballots. The WSFS site-selection announcement contains the election details.
Where was the convention held?
The principal facility was the Summit building of the Seattle Convention Center. The event announcement also named the Sheraton Grand Seattle and neighboring hotels as convention locations. Organizers’ earlier planning questionnaire described the Seattle Sheraton as the headquarters hotel, about five to seven blocks from the convention center depending on the exit, and identified nearby Hyatt properties for planned hotel blocks. Those were plans for the 2025 convention, not current lodging offers. The event announcement and the organizers’ SMOFCon 40 questionnaire provide the venue and planning context.
The questionnaire discussed buses, light rail, streetcars, bike-share and scooters, as well as limited downtown street parking and garages. Because it was prepared in 2023, it should not be used as a guide to current fares, payment requirements, parking prices or service availability.

Author and fan programming
Martha Wells’s appearances connected her fiction with both readers and screen adaptation. Program listings included a Murderbot fan meetup discussing the series, System Collapse and Witch King, as well as a conversation about the Murderbot adaptation. These events were part of a wider mix of readings, panels and discussion.
Costumes and hands-on activities
The costume track included workshops and exhibits, plus a tactile display. The program also described a cosplay and costume repair station with tools, supplies and assistance. These offerings made practical costume-making and repair part of the event, not just the masquerade audience’s spectacle.

Film and music
The pocket program reported more than 180 film submissions from 33 countries. It said over 50% of submissions benefited from waived submission fees for BIPOC and women directors. Those are figures published by Seattle Worldcon in its program, not independently audited totals. Music programming included concerts and dances.
How large was Seattle Worldcon 2025?
A verified final attendance count is not established by the official event sources cited here. A Seattle Convention Center calendar snippet included a 5,500 attendance estimate alongside dates extending beyond the convention itself, so it should not be treated as the event’s confirmed final attendance. The 168 figure associated with the site-selection vote counts ballots, not convention attendees.
