Selena Gomez did not announce a confirmed final album or retirement. In a January 2024 interview on the SmartLess podcast, she said she felt she had “one more album in me” and would probably choose acting. She also said she wanted to slow down because she was tired. Gomez and benny blanco later released the collaborative album I Said I Love You First in March 2025, but that release does not settle whether it was her last album.
What Selena Gomez said on SmartLess
Gomez made the remarks in a conversation with podcast hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett. UPI’s January 3, 2024 report quoted her saying, “I do feel like I have one more album in me.” She added that as she got older, she wanted to find something to “settle on,” and said she would probably choose acting.

ABC News’ Good Morning America also reported her describing acting as her original ambition: “I wanted to be an actress,” she said, adding that she had not intended to be a full-time singer, but that the hobby had become something else.
Why the “I’m tired” quote needs context
The remark came after the hosts suggested Gomez did not have to choose between acting and music. She agreed, then said she would want to “chill” because she was tired, according to UPI’s account of the interview. That line expressed a wish to slow down; it was not a separate announcement that she was quitting music.

Was she announcing a final album?
No. “I do feel like I have one more album in me” was a tentative description of how she felt at the time. It is the basis for headlines saying her next album “may be her last,” but the interview did not name a final release, set a retirement date or state definitively that she would stop recording.

On March 21, 2025, Gomez and benny blanco released their collaborative album I Said I Love You First, as announced by Universal Music Canada. The later release is relevant context, but it does not establish that Gomez considers it her final album. The cited announcements and product listings do not resolve whether she later confirmed that status or announced another solo album.
