Scandal made Kerry Washington’s Olivia Pope the center of a high-stakes political crisis team—and gave its ensemble seven seasons of tangled White House drama. The ABC series premiered April 5, 2012, and ended in 2018. Here’s who played its principal characters and what selected cast members were doing as of June 2026; this is a snapshot, not a full career history of the ensemble.
Who played whom on Scandal?
Olivia Pope, played by Kerry Washington, is the political fixer at the center of the series. A former media consultant to the president, she runs a crisis-management firm. Scandal is fiction: Netflix notes that some cases drew inspiration from real events and that Olivia was loosely based on fixer Judy Smith, but the show’s storylines should not be taken as factual accounts.
The ensemble around Olivia included:
- Tony Goldwyn as Fitzgerald “Fitz” Grant, the president whose relationship with Olivia drives much of the drama.
- Katie Lowes as Quinn Perkins, who joins Olivia’s team.
- Darby Stanchfield as Abby Whelan, a member of Olivia’s circle who also works in Washington politics.
- Jeff Perry as Cyrus Beene, a powerful White House operator.
- Joshua Malina as David Rosen, a prosecutor and political figure.
- Guillermo Diaz as Huck, an investigator on Olivia’s team.
- Bellamy Young as Mellie Grant, Fitz’s wife and a political force in her own right.
- Scott Foley as Jake Ballard, a military intelligence officer whose life becomes closely entwined with Olivia’s.
- Joe Morton as Rowan Pope, Olivia’s formidable father.
- Cornelius Smith Jr. as Marcus Walker, a political activist who becomes part of the wider cast.
- George Newbern in a recurring role as Charlie, an operative in the show’s political underworld.
- Portia de Rossi as Elizabeth North, a political strategist introduced later in the series.
ABC’s cast coverage and Hulu’s cast announcement identify the series’ ensemble and roles. Shondaland describes Scandal as a seven-season series that ran over six years, ending in 2018.
Where is the Scandal cast now?
The following updates reflect Shondaland’s June 15, 2026 feature. It covers selected performers, not everyone from the show, and its future-tense plans should be understood as plans reported on that date.

Kerry Washington
Washington co-starred in Apple TV’s Imperfect Women. Shondaland also reported that she had a six-week New York run of The Whoopi Monologues planned for July and August 2026; that June report does not establish whether the production subsequently opened or completed its run.
Her work behind the camera has roots dating back to the show’s run. In an ABC News interview around the 2018 finale, Washington said she had started a production company and identified it as Simpson Street. That is a statement from 2018, not an update on the company’s current slate.

Shondaland’s 2024 retrospective reproduced creator Shonda Rhimes’s praise for Washington: “Kerry Washington is an actress,” Rhimes previously told Shondaland, “who never once questioned what was in the script. Not once did she ever say, ‘I don’t think I can do this’ or ‘This doesn’t go with my values.’ She is a pure actor.”

There was also a cast reunion of sorts after the series ended. The Associated Press reported on November 1, 2024, that Washington, Goldwyn, Young, Rhimes, and other cast members planned a virtual script reading to benefit hurricane relief in western North Carolina. AP described it as the first time the cast had read a script together since the series ended in 2018. It was a benefit event, not an announcement of a new season or reboot.
