Sean “Diddy” Combs confirmed in federal court on May 1, 2025, that he had rejected prosecutors’ plea offer. The terms were not disclosed at that hearing. A later account by his lawyers, reported by the Associated Press, said prosecutors would have recommended a sentence of at least 25 years and that the deal required Combs to plead guilty to crimes of which the jury later acquitted him.
What Combs confirmed in court on May 1
At a hearing before U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian, Combs confirmed that he had rejected an offer from federal prosecutors. The Los Angeles Times reported his response as: “Yes, I do, your honor.” ABC News also reported that he formally rejected the government’s offer. At the time, coverage described the offer as one that would reduce the prison time Combs faced compared with a conviction at trial. No precise sentence figure was publicly established in those May 1 reports.
What the later account said about the offer
In October 2025, the Associated Press reported a later account from Combs’s lawyers: prosecutors had offered a deal under which they would recommend a prison sentence of at least 25 years, and Combs would have to plead guilty to crimes for which the jury ultimately acquitted him. This is the defense’s description of the proposed terms as reported by the AP; it is not a sentence figure disclosed at the May hearing or terms verified here from a published plea agreement. How the jury ruled—and what sentence followed
The jury’s July 2, 2025 verdict did not convict Combs of sex trafficking. It convicted him on two transportation counts and acquitted him of racketeering conspiracy and both sex-trafficking counts. Searchable archive of trial transcripts.
The Associated Press reported that Judge Subramanian sentenced Combs to 50 months in prison on October 3, 2025. That sentence followed the two transportation convictions, not a sex-trafficking conviction. Associated Press report reproduced by the New York State Senate.

Why the reason for his rejection is not established
The available accounts establish that Combs rejected the offer, and his lawyers later described its proposed terms. They do not establish his private reasoning for turning it down. Any claim that he rejected it for a particular personal or legal strategy would go beyond what these reports say.
