On his first day as Wheel of Fortune host, Ryan Seacrest says Pat Sajak and Vanna White gave him a simple reminder: the best part of the job is meeting three new contestants every night—and watching them leave with cash. Seacrest shared the recollection in a September 3, 2024, interview with Good Morning America, as reported by Entertainment Weekly and republished by Yahoo Entertainment.
What did Pat Sajak tell Ryan Seacrest?
Seacrest recalled that Sajak and White both told him, “the best part is you’re going to meet three new people every night.” He followed that thought with, “And they walk away with cash!” The advice, as Seacrest recounted it, put the contestants—not the host—at the center of the show.
These are Seacrest’s reported recollections of what the pair told him, not direct quotations from Sajak or White. He made the comments while seated beside White in the September 3, 2024, interview.
How Seacrest prepared for the hosting role
Seacrest said he watched many episodes and organized mock games in different cities to prepare. He described his approach as preserving a format he believed was already working: “Don’t make any changes, don’t touch it. This show works.”
