His first episode began a new chapter for the game show after Pat Sajak’s 43 years as host.
When did Ryan Seacrest take over Wheel of Fortune?
Seacrest’s first episode aired September 9, 2024, at the start of the show’s 42nd season, ABC News reported that day. He walked onto a new set with co-host Vanna White and greeted contestants.
The debut followed Pat Sajak’s final episode on June 7, 2024. Sajak had announced his departure in June 2023, bringing his 43-year run as host to a close.
What did Seacrest say about the job?
Seacrest called hosting the show “a dream job” and said he had watched it with his family in Atlanta as a child. He described himself as grateful for the invitation to continue the program’s legacy.

All I need to do is keep it moving. All we need to do is have fun every night.”
How did the host transition unfold?
The transition joined the end of Sajak’s long tenure to Seacrest’s first season without suggesting the program needed a wholesale reinvention. Seacrest’s pre-debut comments emphasized keeping the established format moving and making the nightly show fun; his debut episode paired him with White on a new set.
