After finishing his Australia and New Zealand tour in October 2025, Ryan Adams posted, “Thanks AUS. See you never.” He later said he regretted making it seem as if he was addressing an entire country. The remark followed a disputed Melbourne concert where he left the stage before the performance ended, audience complaints, and his apology blaming disorienting phone flashes.
Why did Ryan Adams say “See you never” to Australia?
The post came as Adams’s Australia and New Zealand tour was ending. After the final Auckland show, he described it as his “very last show overseas” and suggested he might not see fans abroad again. In an earlier post, he wrote, “Thanks AUS. See you never,” according to Rolling Stone AU/NZ.

The remarks followed criticism of several performances, most notably the October 12, 2025, concert at Melbourne’s Hamer Hall. The tour had been billed around the 25th anniversary of Heartbreaker, Adams’s solo debut: a celebratory context that ended amid disputes about the shows and his pointed post about Australia. The New Zealand Herald also reported that he had played five Australian shows before the New Zealand dates.
What happened at the Melbourne show?
Adams left the stage before the Hamer Hall concert ended. Attendees posted differing accounts of the performance and its disruption; these are audience descriptions, not a settled account of every moment. Rolling Stone AU/NZ reported on the departure and the ensuing complaints in its coverage of the Melbourne show.

The next evening, Adams apologized in a social-media statement. He said repeated phone-camera flashes had disoriented him and caused what he called an “ocular seizure.” That is Adams’s explanation; the reporting does not independently establish a diagnosis or medical cause. He wrote: “I love you all and I’m so sorry. You did nothing wrong. It’s normal to take photos and it’s normal to use a flash.”
What did the venue say about complaints and refunds?
Arts Centre Melbourne said the concert was presented by promoter TEG MJR and that it had passed customer complaints to the promoter. It advised people seeking refunds to contact the presenter directly. The reporting does not establish how many requests were made or whether any were granted.

- Produced by Adams, the album includes a take on "Bad Blood" that Vanity Fair called "a lovely Heartbreaker-era style version," a version of "Blank Space" with string quartet, and what Adams promised to be the "guaranteed saddest version of 'Welcome to New York' ever - or your tears back
Did Adams explain or take back his Australia comments?
Yes. In a later Instagram post, reported by Rolling Stone AU/NZ on October 22 and subsequently deleted, Adams said: “I regret saying anything after and I regret making it seem like I was addressing an entire country. I wasn’t.” The clarification qualifies the earlier “See you never” post: he said he regretted its apparent target, rather than presenting it as a statement about all Australians.
In the same reported post, Adams described himself as having “vestibular disease” and attributed his difficulty in Melbourne to LED flashes. Those health statements are his own account, not an independently verified explanation of what happened at the concert.

Why was Adams touring Heartbreaker?
The tour marked the 25th anniversary of Heartbreaker, released as Adams’s solo debut. The milestone framed the run of Australian and New Zealand shows; it does not resolve the differing reactions to the performances. The New Zealand Herald reported dates in Christchurch, Wellington, and Auckland, with the final show at Auckland’s Bruce Mason Centre.

Concerns were reported after the Christchurch and Wellington performances as well. Christchurch reviewer David Thorpe said he left “feeling concerned” and referred to “long rambling tangents”; online comments about Wellington also expressed concern. These are attributed impressions from a reviewer and listeners, not medical assessments or proof of a single explanation for the tour’s disputed moments.
