What happens in the Ready or Not 2 trailer?
Searchlight’s official synopsis says the sequel begins moments after Grace survives the Le Domas family’s all-out attack. She learns that she has reached another level of the game, this time alongside Faith, her estranged sister. Grace has one chance to survive, keep Faith alive and claim the High Seat of the Council, which the synopsis says controls the world. Four rival families are hunting for the throne.

The trailer’s “next level” premise is therefore a widening of the deadly contest established in the first film. The official material does not suggest that Grace gains supernatural abilities.
Who plays Grace’s sister, and who is in the cast?
Kathryn Newton plays Faith, Grace’s estranged sister; Weaving returns as Grace. Searchlight lists Sarah Michelle Gellar, Shawn Hatosy, Néstor Carbonell, David Cronenberg, Elijah Wood, Kevin Durand, Olivia Cheng, Varun Saranga and Daniel Beirne among the cast. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett direct, with a screenplay by Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy.

Newton described Faith as Grace’s sister and “kinda her foil,” according to Searchlight’s production notes. Those notes frame the sisters’ relationship as an emotional anchor amid the expanded family rivalry. Director Matt Bettinelli-Olpin called the sequel “earnestly a love story,” while Tyler Gillett described it as a story about two people trying to reconnect and fall in love again. These are the filmmakers’ and cast’s descriptions of the film, not a guarantee of how viewers will respond.
How does the sequel connect to the first film?
Searchlight’s production notes say the sequel begins frame-to-frame with the original film’s final image. From there, the story broadens the ritual from the Le Domas family to multiple families competing within the same system. That shift gives Grace a new immediate problem—protecting Faith—as well as the contest for the Council’s High Seat.

Weaving told the studio, “You can expect a lot of blood, a lot of insanity,” adding, “It’s everything you love about the first one, but more of it.” The line is promotional context from the lead actor; the trailer and official synopsis establish the expanded game and the sisters’ predicament.

Searchlight listed the US theatrical release for March 20, 2026. For Australia and New Zealand, 20th Century Studios listed March 19, 2026, and the regional page carries an MA15+ rating. The one-day difference reflects separate territory listings.

Searchlight’s production notes list an R rating and a runtime of 108 minutes. An Associated Press review published March 18, 2026, also reports an R rating but gives the runtime as 148 minutes. Because those runtime figures conflict, check the current local distributor listing rather than treating either duration as settled. AP describes the R rating as “for strong bloody violence, gore, pervasive language and brief drug use.”
