Russell Crowe plays Nazi leader Hermann Göring in Nuremberg, James Vanderbilt’s postwar drama about the psychological assessments behind the Nuremberg trials. The “unrecognizable” description belongs to the first-look headline’s reaction to Crowe’s appearance, not an objective measure. The film also stars Rami Malek as U.S. Army psychiatrist Douglas Kelley and Michael Shannon as prosecutor Robert H. Jackson.
What does the first-look image show?
The image presents Crowe in character as Göring. Sky’s first-look announcement used the “unrecognizable” framing, but that is a subjective description of the transformation rather than a verifiable fact about how viewers will perceive him. Sky’s announcement identifies Crowe among the film’s principal cast.

What is Nuremberg about?
The film focuses on the aftermath of World War II and the preparation of Nazi prisoners for trial. Malek plays Kelley, the U.S. Army psychiatrist assigned to assess whether the prisoners are fit to stand trial; his encounters with Göring, played by Crowe, form the story’s central psychological conflict. Shannon plays Jackson in the film’s trial story.
Sony Pictures Entertainment’s film page frames the movie around Kelley and Göring, while the official film site also emphasizes their conflict against the setting of the trials. It is therefore a focused drama about one psychiatrist’s work and his interactions with Göring, rather than a comprehensive account of every aspect of the Nuremberg proceedings.
