The same update says Bethesda has multiple Fallout projects in active development and that Fallout 5 remains a long-range destination. It also separately confirms that Obsidian is working with Bethesda on a new Fallout project; it does not say that this is the remaster.
When is the New Vegas remaster coming out?
Bethesda has not announced a release date or launch window. Its July 17 statement explicitly said it was not announcing dates. Claims that the remaster will arrive at a particular event, in a particular year, or as a surprise release are speculation, not confirmed timing.

Bethesda’s announcement does not specify the remaster’s platforms, technical or visual changes, gameplay changes, included content, performance targets, price, preorder status, storefront listings, or development team. Is it a remaster or a remake?
Bethesda calls the project a remaster. That is the confirmed description; the studio has not published a feature list that explains what it means in practice for this game.

Todd Howard has spoken generally about preserving a game’s original character. In a February 19, 2026 GamesRadar+ report, he said he had “softened on the whole remaster thing” and described himself as “sort of anti-remake,” adding that a game’s age is part of its personality and historical identity. That is Howard’s broad philosophy, not a promise about New Vegas’s engine, graphics, mechanics, or other specific features.
Is Obsidian or Iron Galaxy making it?
The official announcement does not name a team for the remaster. Obsidian developed the original Fallout: New Vegas, released in 2010, while Bethesda Softworks published it, according to the Steam listing for the original game. Those credits do not identify the remaster’s developer.

Bethesda’s announcement that Obsidian is working on a new Fallout project does not connect Obsidian to the remaster. Nor does Iron Galaxy’s earlier “Please Stand By” slide establish involvement: in March 2026, the studio told GameSpot the slide was a routine internal meeting slide and “has nothing to do with anything Fallout being worked on.” Bethesda’s later confirmation of the remaster is separate from that false lead.

If you want to play now, the original game is a separate option. The Xbox Store listing for Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition describes it as including the base game and major add-on packs. It is the original edition, not the announced remaster. Check the store listing for your platform and edition before buying.
