No. The available reporting does not show that Russia has banned GTA 6. It reports that Mikhail Ivanov, a Bryansk regional legislator and deputy chair of the World Russian People’s Council, called for strict restrictions or a specially edited version, citing alleged immoral content and possible influence on young people.
What was proposed—and who proposed it?
NEWS.ru reported on January 14, 2026, that Ivanov urged Russia to restrict Grand Theft Auto VI or require a specially edited Russian version. The report documents a politician’s appeal, not an order or decision by a Russian regulator, federal authority, or court. No formal ban or restriction is established by the sources available for this account.

NEWS.ru attributed this statement to Ivanov: “The creators of GTA VI are deliberately including destructive and vulgar content in their product, completely unacceptable to society’s moral health.” This is his allegation, not an independently verified finding about the game.
Why did Ivanov call for restrictions?
The report says Ivanov pointed to alleged male-stripper scenes and what he described as immoral content, arguing that the game could influence young people and conflict with moral or traditional values. Those points are his stated reasons; the report does not independently verify the specific scene or establish an effect on children.

What content does Rockstar disclose?
Rockstar’s GTA VI product page lists advisories for blood and gore, intense violence, mature humor, nudity, strong language, strong sexual content, and drug and alcohol use. Those advisories establish that Rockstar flags mature material, but they do not verify the particular scene Ivanov cited.

Rockstar lists November 19, 2026 as the release date and PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as platforms. Its pre-order information says the physical version contains a download code rather than a game disc. A purchase from a different region must match the region of the platform account used to redeem it.

For Russia specifically, MTS announced on June 29, 2026 that users of MTS Payments could pre-order GTA VI for PS5. That dated announcement does not confirm that the offer remains available or that stock is currently on sale. Neither the Rockstar information nor the reported appeal establishes that a Russia-only edited edition exists.
