Rule Breakers is a 2025 drama about Roya Mahboob and the Afghan Dreamers, an all-girls robotics team in Afghanistan. Directed by Bill Guttentag, the film follows girls learning robotics and coding as they pursue an opportunity to compete internationally. Angel Studios describes it as based on the team’s story; its dramatic scenes should be understood as the film’s portrayal, not independent proof of every historical detail.
What is Rule Breakers about?
Angel Studios frames the story around a woman who teaches girls in a country where their education faces opposition. In the movie’s account, Roya Mahboob recruits high school girls to learn robotics and coding. Their work attracts attention, bringing both hope and opposition as they seek an international competition opportunity.
The distributor describes the film as based on the true story of Afghanistan’s first all-girls robotics team, the Afghan Dreamers. That description identifies the real-world inspiration; the film remains a dramatized story, so its scenes and plot details are not, by themselves, independent historical verification.
