RuPaul Charles hosted and executive produced CBS’s U.S. revival of LINGO, a team word game in which pairs guess letters to reveal words. The series premiered on Jan. 11, 2023. CBS announced a second season in 2024 with a new returning-champion rule, but the available announcements do not establish the show’s current season status or where it streams today.
What is CBS’s LINGO?
LINGO is a word-puzzle game played by teams of two. Players guess letters to uncover words, with correct answers contributing to their chance to win cash. CBS’s announcement for the 2023 premiere previewed four competing teams; it described an extra $50,000 jackpot prize for one team in that premiere, not a guaranteed prize in every episode. CBS News reported the premiere format and stakes.
When did it premiere, and who hosted it?
CBS announced the revival on Nov. 14, 2022. The first season premiered Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2023, at 9 p.m. ET/PT. RuPaul Charles served as host and executive producer. CBS News’ Jan. 10, 2023 premiere report previewed the launch.
What changed in season 2?
CBS announced the second season on Apr. 26, 2024, with a premiere on May 24. The launch was scheduled as two back-to-back episodes from 8 to 10 p.m. ET/PT, followed by Friday episodes at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Those dates and times describe the 2024 schedule, not the show’s current airtime. CBS’s season-two announcement also introduced a returning-champion mechanism: each episode’s winner could come back to compete in the next episode. That created the possibility of extended winning streaks and larger cash prizes.

Where could viewers watch season 2?
In its 2024 announcement, CBS said Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers could watch season-two episodes live and on demand, while Paramount+ Essential subscribers would receive them on demand the next day. These were the access terms CBS announced for that season; they do not confirm that the episodes remain in the current catalog or that the same plan terms apply now. The sources available here also do not establish whether another season has aired or been announced. Check a current CBS schedule and Paramount+ catalog for present-day listings.
How widely was the format sold?
A Jan. 2023 CBS News report said All3Media International had sold the Lingo format in more than 17 territories. That is a figure reported at the time, not a current verified count. The 2024 CBS release identifies the format as an All3Media/IDTV and Talpa TV production distributed by All3Media International.
