In a September 2026 interview with Men’s Health, Roman Reigns said he is still fighting chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). He described the condition as “under control” and “under the actual baseline,” but said he has not reached molecular remission because traces remain. What Roman Reigns said about his leukemia
Reigns said his CML remains an ongoing concern, despite being controlled. “I’m still, to this day, down to the wire fighting CML,” he said. He added that he has to be careful about invasive procedures and would discuss any such option with his doctor.
Asked about his status, Reigns said: “It’s under control, and we’re under the actual baseline, but to be in molecular remission, it has to be almost zeroed out, and there are still those minute traces, like .0031, but it counts.” The transcription does not give a unit for “.0031,” so the figure should not be read as a standalone clinical measurement.
Reigns also called peptides “overrated,” while explicitly qualifying that as his view as someone with limited knowledge. That comment is personal opinion, not medical guidance or a recommendation about leukemia treatment.

How his current update differs from his 2019 announcement
In February 2019, Reigns returned to Raw and announced that his leukemia was in remission after treatment. WWE described his treatment as a “home run” and reported that he was in remission. That was his public description at the time; it does not mean the disease was permanently cured. His September 2026 comments describe a later status: controlled CML, with traces remaining and molecular remission not yet reached. - Late 2008: WWE’s 2019 corporate announcement said Reigns was initially diagnosed with CML at age 22 and went into remission. WWE’s announcement identified the condition as chronic myeloid leukemia.
- October 22, 2018: Reigns announced that his leukemia had returned after remission. He said he had lived with the disease for 11 years, relinquished the Universal Championship and stepped away from WWE. WWE reported the announcement.
- February 25, 2019: Reigns returned to Raw and said his leukemia was in remission after treatment. WWE’s report describes that announcement.
- 2025: In an interview with the Associated Press, Reigns said his bloodwork and leukemia-related measures were in a good range and at bay, while he continued working toward “zeroed-out molecular remission.” The AP interview is a dated account, not a substitute for his later update.
- September 2026: In the Men’s Health interview transcribed by Fightful, Reigns said he was still fighting CML, described it as controlled and below baseline, and said traces remained.
What “breaks character” means in this update
“Breaks character” is entertainment framing: Reigns was speaking about his real-life health rather than performing an in-ring storyline. His remarks offer a personal update, not a public medical record. The cited accounts do not establish his current treatment regimen or provide an independent physician assessment.
