Rick and Morty Season 8 premiered on Adult Swim on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at 11 p.m. ET/PT. The network announced the date on April 1 during a 22-minute April Fools’ special that reimagined moments from the series as live-action theater. The announcement was real; the premiere date has now passed.
What was the Rick and Morty Season 8 premiere date?
Adult Swim set the Season 8 premiere for Sunday, May 25, 2025, at 11 p.m. ET/PT. The network made the announcement on April 1, 2025, in its official Season 8 release. This was a past premiere announcement, not a current upcoming air date.
Was the April Fools’ broadcast itself a prank?
The presentation was deliberately unusual, but the premiere announcement was genuine. Adult Swim folded it into its annual April Fools’ programming: a 22-minute anthology of fan-favorite Rick and Morty moments retold through live-action, theater-inspired genres. The special also included a first look at Season 8. Adult Swim said viewers who missed the broadcast could watch it online.
The network’s video description titled the event “April Fools 2025: Portal People”. Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen joked about the theatrical interpretations: “We hope you enjoyed our theater interpretations of ‘Rick and Morty,’ especially if you are well-off/impulsive and now want to back a Broadway version of the show.” The quip was part of the joke, not an announcement of a Broadway production.
