The order halted the imminent sale; it was not a final ruling on every claim in her civil lawsuit. Later federal criminal proceedings, reported by the Associated Press, identified Lisa Findley as responsible for fabricating the loan documents and publishing the foreclosure notice.
Why was Graceland facing foreclosure?
On May 15, 2024, Keough, acting as trustee of the Promenade Trust, filed a verified complaint in Shelby County Chancery Court. The complaint identified the trust as Graceland’s owner and sought injunctive and declaratory relief.
According to the complaint, documents presented in September 2023 falsely claimed that Lisa Marie Presley had borrowed $3.8 million from Naussany Investments & Private Lending LLC and pledged Graceland as security. A foreclosure notice said the property would be sold in a non-judicial auction on May 23, 2024. These were allegations in Keough’s filing, not findings made in the May injunction order. The Associated Press also reported on the alleged loan and the pending sale in its May 21, 2024, report on Keough’s lawsuit.
What did Keough’s complaint allege?
The complaint challenged the purported loan and deed of trust. It alleged that the deed had not been recorded in Shelby County and that the named notary, Kimberly Philbrick, said she had never met Lisa Marie Presley or notarized the documents. Those claims formed part of Keough’s case; they should not be mistaken for conclusions in the court’s temporary order.

What did the judge order on May 22?
Shelby County Chancellor JoeDae Jenkins issued a temporary injunction on May 22, preventing the auction scheduled for May 23 from going forward. The Associated Press reported that Jenkins said Keough’s side could be successful in arguing that the attempt to auction Graceland was fraudulent. He also said: “Graceland is a part of this community, well-loved by this community and indeed around the world.”
The injunction provided immediate protection against the planned sale. It was a preliminary court action, not a final adjudication of every civil claim raised in the lawsuit. The Associated Press’s May 22 report on the injunction described the order and the canceled auction.

What did later federal proceedings establish?
The later criminal case supplied a separate development beyond the May civil injunction. The Associated Press reported that prosecutors identified Lisa Findley as the person who posed as people connected to the bogus lender, fabricated loan documents and published the foreclosure notice. Prosecutors said Findley demanded $2.85 million from the Presley family to settle the matter. Findley pleaded guilty and was later sentenced to more than four years in prison, according to AP’s report on her guilty plea and report on her sentence.
Those criminal proceedings clarified responsibility for the scheme; they are distinct from the civil court’s temporary decision to stop the auction. The May 22 order itself did not decide every issue in Keough’s lawsuit.
