Quintel. Mordecai and Rigby return to the local park, where ordinary work again spirals into surreal trouble. The announced premiere was May 11, 2026, on Cartoon Network and HBO Max, starting with a half-hour special; the lost-tapes premise revisits the original show’s world rather than simply continuing from its finale.
What is the new Regular Show series called?
The announced title is Regular Show: The Lost Tapes. Warner Bros. Discovery said on March 23, 2026, that Cartoon Network was bringing the series back, with Cartoon Network Studios producing it. The premise returns to best friends Mordecai and Rigby as they live and work at a local park, where everyday jobs turn into bizarre, escalating chaos. Warner Bros. Discovery’s announcement describes it as a new series.
Is J.G. Quintel involved?
Yes. Quintel, who created the original Regular Show, is credited as creator and executive producer of The Lost Tapes. The other announced executive producers are Sean Szeles and Sam Register. Production roles named in the announcement include Toby Jones as supervising director, Paula Spence as supervising art director and Ryan Slater as producer. The listed voice cast includes Quintel, William Salyers, Sam Marin, Mark Hamill, Minty Lewis and Janie Haddad Tompkins.
When did The Lost Tapes premiere, and where can it be watched?
Warner Bros. Discovery announced a global premiere date of May 11, 2026, with a half-hour special on Cartoon Network and HBO Max. That is the announced premiere plan; actual availability and episode rollout can differ by territory. The outlets named in the announcement do not establish that every episode is available in every country.

Catalog information also varies by region. Apple TV’s Canadian English listing describes the 2026 animated comedy as 11 minutes per episode and shows six season-one episodes in the catalog view reviewed. That is a Canada-specific catalog snapshot, not a worldwide availability guide: Apple TV Canada listing.
Is it a direct sequel to the original finale?
“Sequel” is a useful shorthand for a new series featuring the original creator and familiar characters, but it does not fully explain the story’s continuity. Regular Show ended after eight seasons in 2017 with a finale that showed the characters’ later lives. In a Summer 2026 feature, The Animation Guild’s Keyframe magazine explains that Quintel and Szeles considered how to revisit a story they felt had ended conclusively. The lost-tapes idea gave them a way back into the original world rather than picking up directly after the finale.

So the available description supports reading The Lost Tapes as a return to the familiar setting through lost stories, not as a retcon that erases the ending or a straightforward account of what happened next. The distinction matters: the announced hook is more Regular Show in its original world, not a replacement for the characters’ established future.

Warner Bros. Discovery also announced a six-week tie-in takeover in Cartoon Network: Game On! on Roblox. The activation was to include an island, characters, vehicles, buildable attractions and a rhythm minigame. The stated availability excluded MENA and Turkey.
The announcement also used audience figures to illustrate the franchise’s reach. Warner Bros. Discovery reported nearly 2.5 million weekly U.S. viewers at the show’s 2013 peak; an average of 4 million weekly viewers across EMEA markets it named—the United Kingdom, South Africa, Poland, Italy, Spain, Romania and Hungary; and 59 million average monthly views in 2025 across YouTube, TikTok and Instagram, described as 100% higher than the previous year. These are the company’s promotional figures; the announcement does not provide an independent audit methodology. It also says the original series won a Primetime Emmy Award and received multiple Emmy, Annie and BAFTA Children’s Award nominations, without specifying years or counts for the nominations.
