Robert De Niro was 81 when he jumped from a yacht into the sea in a video shared by his daughter Drena De Niro for his birthday on Aug. 17, 2024. The clip shows a splash and a brief check that he is all right; “body slam” is a playful headline description, not a confirmed account of a different stunt.
What happened in the birthday video?
Drena De Niro shared the clip as part of a birthday tribute to her father. ABC News reported the post on Aug. 18, 2024, and reproduced her caption: “Happy 81st Bday to my Dad and #1 ride or die .. Love you with all my ♥️♥️♥️ #BobbyD forever ✨👑✨” ABC News described the video as showing De Niro entering the water.
The Independent described the scene as De Niro jumping from a yacht into the sea. After he splashes down, Drena asks whether he is all right; De Niro responds that he is. Sky News also covered the yacht leap and quoted Drena reacting, “You are crazy.” The Independent and Sky News characterized the moment as a jump, not a measured or formally documented dive.
How high was the jump?
The Independent reported that someone aboard said the water was 30 feet below. That figure is dialogue heard in the video, not an independently measured height. The available reporting does not establish a verified distance from the yacht to the water.
